Things you used to have but don't anymore, and then one day you hear something from it and give serious consideration to re-buying it...

Me:

- Jane's Addiction, either Ritual or Nothing's Shocking.

- Fugazi, Steady Diet of Nothing

- Dead Milkmen, some later album they had, and a guy copied it to tape for me, I loved it for 4 months and lost it. After Big Lizard.

- Young Fresh Fellows, I think it was self-titled? It had Picture Book and Taco Wagon on it. I heard years later that their guitarist toured with REM... random.

And see, you could save this thread if anybody responds, and then you'd know what to get people for christmas. Plus maybe it'll spur some behind-the-scenes ysi love.

i never have this problem because i pretty much never get rid of albums. which can be both a good thing and a bad thing.

Don't get me wrong. I have digital versions of most of these, but I miss the discs.

I only have 1 disc of the White Album. I don't want to buy the whole thing again.

I bought Another Bad Creation - At the playground when I was like 11, and I would love to have that again.

I should add that I've been relatively slow to acquire things digitally, so I have very little in the way of backups.

Rarely happens because I'm pretty sure I've had my fill before I get rid of something.

However, recently I bought some Waylon Jennings that I had gotten rid of years ago.

BTW, Waylon's 70's albums are great for anyone who thinks they hate country music.

Built to Spill - Keep It Like a Secret

Gang of Four - Entertainment!

Fuck you, M. Carey! I loaned this to you so as you could burn them, but after I punted myself from your circle, I was never able to get 'em back!

Badly Drawn Boy - Hour of Bewilderbeast

Love - (Boxset)

The first one was kidnapped by a certain drummer and returned with only the case.

The second was borrowed by a certain singer/songwriter who took it on tour during which it was stolen.

A friend of mine bought their tape in like 9th grade, I think after hearing one of the songs somewhere. The whole album was good as hell.

edit: Who wrote Picture Book?? Because it's now being / been used in those HP photo printer ads, but sung by someone else... I know somebody knows.

I think it was after Beelebubba, too. Like maybe the last album they ever did, because it sounded way different, with better production (which is to say "some" production) and if I remember right, it just stood out a lot from everything else.

I also have the worst memory ever, so I could have the wrong band. But I don't think so.

I have the video for "Aiesha" at home. Seriously.

Maybe it's a good thing you guys gave this one up, because now you have an excuse to pick up the remastered edition, which sounds much better.

COOL! God, I miss Reclamation. That song all by itself shows why Joe Lally sorta made that band. Everyone else is good, but without him none of it would be great.

Seconded.

I'm currently forcing myself to part with the things I never listen to, but for whatever reason insist on keeping. I simply can't keep up monetarily with my interests in new music, and there's far too much stuff that goes ignored save for one listen every year or so. I'm sacrificing those discs to mp3 and selling them off so that I never go "Oh, man, I sold ______ and I really need to hear that one song!"

After watching the Dylan doc this week, I realized how much I missed my vinyl Biograph box set (one among many lost to divorce 10 yrs ago). The fix is in, though- I ordered cd remaster version Wednesday.

Fuck yes! "Reclamation" was my favorite too. I'm going to pick this up after work today. Gotta hear that badass intro.... fast guitar and slow groovy-ass bassline. Love it!

Maybe Metaphysical Graffiti? I always liked that one.
