This is prolly just a factor of you being in Wisconsin, with (presumably) a native for a girlfriend. The Packer love runs deep here, and spills over to other teams with relative ease... Of course, if it didn't, you would feel the wrath of...

Well, yes... And she's Chicana... But does she make a good arroz con pollo*?

If so, most definitely yes, she's the perfect woman. Otherwise...

There's this number line in marriages with 1 being hell and 10 being heaven. I'd say most guys would be at about a 4. Things like your thread subject are the main reason.

Ah, yes. I totally misread the quote boxing. I saw the name Aural Fixation, and spaced and any subsequent posts... Sorry.

You're the Hispanic/Latina, Poet's the pallid Yankee/Gringa from Vermont.

So - what do you mean?

man, i must be lucky, but my in-laws are rad, and i love spending time with them.

a night at their place consists of: eating an insanely good meal, drinking heavily, good conversation.

oh, and the LAST thing I want is a woman that likes sports. for me [i know i'm in the majority], it's an enormous turn-off.

So.....I got to see enough of the game to be satisfied. AND we had a fine time and her madre's casa.

And as to the Radcliffe list: the gf is currently in an intense football education phase. she said that she didnt want to become a football widow so she might as well learn about the game. Having Mike Vick as your QB helps the excitement; To wit: She is definitely a Falcons fan but I still havent convinced her about the Bulldogs.....

And she does like music as well. Her latest obsessions: New Pornographers - Twin Cinema, Fiona Apple - Extraordinary Machine.

Not bad, eh? As to marriage, stay tuned, kids, stay tuned.......

When you're single, you get to do whatever you want, 100% of the time. When you begin to share your time with someone else, that number can only go down. In my case, however, the things I would be doing (or not doing) on my own are pretty goddam lame, so it works out very nicely.

Yes, Busty has it good. Yes, she's a native.

I wish my inlaws were in town. The nicest people... ever. That house is full of never-ending, cold-cold High Life and comfortable chairs. Her aunt and uncle live nearby, and bridge the gap nicely though.

Bloor, your girl beat off a carjacker for you while you were driving...

If you don't marry her, she just might kick your ass.

And no, Stacey isn't from Laos.

So true. Do what I did. Move 3000 miles away from either set of parents, and you're golden.

I'd prefer to be close to my family, thank you very much.

The inlaws(sic) are fine. I'm surprisingly tolerant.

Me too. As much as they can be pains in the butt, I'd miss terribly having my family around. And my ma is moving to Arizona in about 8 mos and I"m already depressed about it. Holidays are officially going to suck once that happens.

And I like my inlaws too, but I only get to see that side once or twice a year. Josh and I wish we could more often especially once we have kids.

Perhaps I've misrepresented myself here. It's not that I don't love my family or my in-laws-- I do. But when I lived in Atlanta, there was this unspoken "rule" that we had to gather at my parents house for various weekend gatherings (I'm not talking holidays). This tends to be a very Southern thing in my experience. The fact is, I didn't always enjoy driving out to my parents house and spending an entire afternoon there. And neither did my husband, and if he didn't go, then there was often that doubtful look cast in my direction. It doesn't mean I don't love my parents, it just means that I don't like the expectation of having to spend every other weekend at my parents house. When you move far away, that issue goes away on its own.

I look at it this way-- I'm only a 5 hour plane ride away. I can access them whenever I want. And they are more than welcome to come visit me! ;)

My setup almost exactly. I miss the regular contact, I do NOT miss the driving.
