Has anyone taken this before? I used to take Ritalin but had to stop because it made my stomach feel like shit all the time and I never had an appetite. For the last two years I've been without anything, but my inability to concentrate has gotten worse than it's ever been recently. The doctor wanted me to switch to Strattera, but apparently there's been a new study that it causes "suicidal thoughts in teens" so he called us that same night and warned me not to take it. So now I'm taking Adderall, and I've only taken it once (today) but apparently the effects are very similar to Ritalin.

Does anyone have any experience with Adderall? Can you recommend it?

Is this the same drug that's used to stop smoking? If so, my nephew takes it and seems to work great for him.

I've not taken any of these medications personally, but I've prescribed Adderall and Ritalin hundreds of times. I've found Strattera to be almost useless, although the risk of suicidal thoughts is minimal.

Adderall XR is the medication that I've prescribed the most for patients with ADHD, and have been pleased with the results. Certainly it can cause appetite loss and difficulty sleeping, but the benefits far outweigh the side effects for most.

i've done gatorbacks of it when i couldn't find anything columbian. works better than ritalin but the next day leaves you completely alert but useless, and not hungry.

The guy I work with takes it every day. He swears he´s useless without it. He goes on these work binges where he´ll stay up for a damn long time working and popping adderall. A little frightening.

I'm the complete opposite of ADHD - not hyper at all. I just can't concentrate, on ANYTHING. At all.

ADD and ADHD both respond to the medications. Often adults do not exhibit the impulsive/hyper behaviors, but just the inattention or lack of concentration. Both types generally respond to the common medications.

My son has been on it for almost two years now after a horried experience with Ritalin and an equally as horrid experience with strattera.

Adderall has worked absolute wonders for him.

i take adderall for this reason, and although i was initially very resistant to it (as i am with most prescription drugs) i have to say, it works. i can't tell a huge difference when i'm not on it, but i do think it has been a very good thing for me.

and i've only snorted it once. desperate times.

It's all about the Xanax. How many times do I have to say it?

Around age 19 I used to snort it to keep me awake while drinking. It gives back the edge alcohol takes away. Don't know how it would help with ADD because my psychiatrist wouldn't give me any medication for it (even though I was diagnosed) because I was prone to abusing any stimulants (read above for his logical reasoning).

I think the drug Tania is referring to is Welbutrin, right?

And, Blue Milk, are you a student? Maybe what you are studying is boring as shit or you're just not interested in it. Things I like capture my attention while things I find uninteresting don't. I speak from the viewpoint of someone with ADD that has never taken medication for it. I've found ways to cope that help out somewhat.

i was on Ritalin for awhile during middle school, didn't really affect me too much one way or another. Adderall, whenever I've taken it (which is been illegal and in excess 100% of the time) has kept me up for hours and hours and twitchy at best. my biochemistry is just weird though.

Yes, I'm a senior in high school. And that definitely describes me (I have NO interest in anything I learn at school) but I also have a terrible time reading things that I AM interested in, even that Our Band Could Be Your Life book that is written about many of my favorite bands.

On a side note, I was up until 5 o'clock in the morning last night, unable to sleep or even come close to sleeping at all. My body was extremely weak and tired, but it seemed like my brain wouldn't shut off and let me go to sleep. I had to get up at 7 for school, and although I was tired for a few minutes, I took another pill this morning and all day I've felt like I got a really good night's rest. Maybe this stuff is a little stronger than I thought. It should wear off within a week or so though, I'm guessing.

I wish I could help, but you sound exactly like I did when I was a student. I think the feeling of indifference and disinterest also goes along with youth, but the ADD amplifies it because you need something stimulating you all of the time. I'd be interested to know if you are a constant worrier too?
RE: reading....do you find yourself reading a page and then upon finishing that page not remembering ANYTHING you just read because you were thinking about other stuff?
Nutrition and exercise are also pretty important in combating ADD w/out the help of meds. Try to lay off soda as well.
I have a feeling that any and all ADD meds are going to make you feel like you're on speed and keep you up because the meds ARE speed. I never really overcame my inability to concentrate while studying. Luckily I was intelligent enough to not have to study much. I always sucked at math because I couldn't concentrate long enough to figure out the problems, but I was pretty good at analyzing and extrapolating on literature, film, music, etc. when forced to do so.

I once wrote a 16 page paper on Winston Churchill's "Their Finest Hour" speech in one night after taking 2 of these.

It's the only time I've ever taken it. I knew a guy in college that was on it all the time for ADD I think. He abused it though and it made him kind of erratic and it gave him the "crazy eye" where you would be talking to him and it would seem like he was looking through you or glossing over.

don't even listen to this guy. he has no idea what he is talking about. he'll probably totally ignore the indisputable fact that adderall causes autism...
