THE NATIONAL Striking a delicate balance between light and dark, fast and slow, American and British. While their sound is undeniably tinged with darkness, it isn't gloomy or depressing. They combine alt-country, chamber-pop, and post-punk angst. CLAP YOUR HANDS SAY YEAH Clean, galloping guitars and fruit loop synth trills, small, stripped guitars and bass, and lilting vocals with woozily yawning vowels. Comparisons to the Talking Heads abound...Self released and on fire ....great reviews on Pitchfork. Doors at 8, $11.

WOLF EYES Abstract, texture-based noise music, brazen electro-industrial soundscapes. Dauntingly abrasive, yes; spiritually violating, no. They will raise your awareness. If Wolf Eyes stand out from the legacy of doomsayers that includes Throbbing Gristle, Suicide, Whitehouse, and more recently Yellow Swans, it's because they're impressively, expertly abrasive. PRURIENT Massive, textural, throbbing, destructive, electronic, feedback drenched, power electronics and industrial noise with heavily processed vocals and field recordings dealing with vulnerability. uses some of the thirteenth century love poems of persian poet rumi as lyrics. BRAINKILLER WITH COREY FOGEL You'd be hard pressed to call it 'jazz' or anything else during a particular moment, but when you step back, dozens of genres become apparent. Doors at 8, $8.
all these shows are nicely priced around $10...Woot Woot
