That guy on the far left actually looks more like Johnny Cash now. No more pooffy hairdo.

By the way, is Robert Turner the guy in the middle? He trimmed his shit too. I was always wondering which one was the guy who was related to Michael Been from The Call. I always figured it was the middle guy.

Robert Turner is the one that plays mostly the bass. He's the one that does most of the singing. He was also the one that played the piano. Yes he is related to Michael Bean, that's his father and the band's tour manager.

OK, that's who I thought he was. I've just never seen the name with the face. I also have the Beggars CD that he was on, but it's hard to tell which one is him.

How were they live? Did Mark Gardener open? I missed the show in Seattle a few weeks ago. I saw them the last time they came around in Chicago. I was hurtin' without ear plugs in a small venue.

I missed them here in SLC too---I was bummed, as I wanted to hear the new album live. I saw them on their last tour and it wasn't very good (predominantly because the songs on that album were not good, and it was too damn loud).

Yeah he did. I only caught one song though. Wasn't bad but nothing I found memorable.

They were good live. They kind of fooled me at first. The first song played was done by the guy on the left all by himself - but I didn't recognize him at first, nor the song, and the other guys weren't on stage. So I thought to myself - oh shit not another opening act? But I quickly realized after hearing him sing for a while that it was BRMC. After going into the second song by himself I'm thinking "Well where the fuck are the other guys?" But they eventually came on at the end of the song. They played a good balance of stuff from all 3 records. I kept my earplugs on for most of the show. I took them off for the encore. "Stop" kicked my ass from here to Honolulu. But it was LOUD! I was looking around thinking "these other fuckers are nuts for not having earplugs." I was hoping they'd play "Red Eyes and Tears." They may have - but I left during "Gospel Song" - which was the 3rd encore song. I will say it's interesting the way they shift effortlessly between J&MC-esque shoegazer-rock to gritty blues rock. It was like 2 different bands up there.

Mark Gardener was excellent!

Peter BRMC sang the first song, I guess it was from their new album. I was pissed, because they were only singing new stuff in the beginning, but then they started doing their old stuff and that totally rocked. It was back to their fuzz and smoke...bitchin'!

I thought they were headed in the right direction with the 2nd album stylistically, it's just the songs weren't as good as the first album. And they do manage to pull of the blues rather well on the new album without sounding like some random bar blues band.
