So I'm listening to "lift Your Skinny Fists...." and I swear, everytime I put this on I fall in love with it all over again. Definitely their strongest of their albums, but I love them all. Please, discuss amongst yourselves.....

i don't know if i have a favorite, but i do know that i have subjected my wife to many rainy day chronological order gloom-fests (including, on occasion, the a silver mt zion albums that i have).

My favorite is the EP (kind of a misnomer with them), "Slow Riot for New Zero Kanada." The first movement of "Providence" is heart-stopping.

I agree, their best.
Lift your skinny fists was my introduction to Godspeed, so perhaps that has jaundiced my opinion. None of the other albums has the same power over me that this one does.

as well it was my intro to them Max, and great way to incorporate the word jaundice by the way

like their EP the best. i've seen godspeed twice - the first time was one of the best show's i've been too, the second the worst. first show - bloor cinema, sit down venue, projections on all three walls, just amazing. second show - stand up venue, tons of assholes trying to get close to get to the front, crappy projections on a bed sheet behind the stage, a group of us sat down on the floor about an hour before the show even started and some bitch started yelling at us. this show pretty much killed any desire to go to a rock show in toronto ever again, and i haven't for nearly three years.

I don't like the EP very much at all.

Lift Yr Skinny Fists... is great, though.

I still haven't heard their first one. I'll get around to it.

the first time i saw them, the doors opened almost 2 hours late. it was 18 degrees. people were fucking angry. it was in this really nice ballroom. everyone was so tired from standing outside in such frigid temperatures and the near-riot that almost resulted that we all just sat down. it was like a sea of bodies - so amazing. and they were incredible. the second time? not so much.

Yanqui was a crock of shit. I probably listened to that no more than 10 times. Love the rest of it though.

I'd have to say I like Esmerine - If Only A Sweet Surrender To The Nights To Come Be True better than any Godspeed album, other than Lift your skinny fists.

It is a collaboration between Bruce Cawdron and Beckie Foon, members of Godspeed You Black Emperor! and A Silver Mt. Zion, respectively. (according to Allmusic.)

More restrained and spooky, with more cello than guitar. I have it in my share folder, if anyone is interested.

I like F#A#(infinity) and Slow Riot to New Zero Kanada the best, but I dig 'em all (yes, even Yanqui U.X.O.). I dig all the side projects (which includes pretty much everything on Constellation and Alien8 -- and I like a lot of stuff on them that have nothing to do with GY!BE), too.

No, it isn't.

There's actually kind of a long story behind that, but suffice it to say, I actually do really answer to "Dusty" in real life.

Mr. Chalk if you're nasty.

Dude. I am so with you on this. Slow Riot is probably next in line for me. Lift Your....heaven is probably third. The first track on skinny fists is absolutely amazing. However, the rest of the album is so boring to me(meaning the second disc as well).

However, the Yanqui U.X.O. one I think I only like part of one track.

All this to say, F#... is my favorite. No contest. Plus, when I heard East Hastings in the preview for 28 Days Later in the theater I almost got up and shouted I was so excited. I am also a huge nerd.

i have trouble with their titles. i know them when i hear them, but i rarely have a clue as to what album it's on or even what it's called.

i have been known to do this too, but more often for car commercials than in the theater.

I restrained myself. I probably shouldn't have because then if I had people in the packed theater would have thought, "that guy's awesome". Then again, I was in Idaho, so maybe they would have thought I wasn't a mormon.
