I bought When the Pawn... based solely on Phil's rantings and ravings about its brilliance. That was more than a year ago.

I thought it was good, and could see its merits. But the thing never really hit me like I hoped it would.

Today it did.

Damn this is great.

's'about time.

Yeah, she's surprisingly awesome, considering her age. Very..."mature".

Yes yes yes. And she just keeps getting better. I don't know how I ever looked at Tori Amos as a more accomplished artist than Fiona. Fiona puts out Extraordinary Machine at age 28. Tori Amos was just putting out her first proper debut at age 28. Before that, it was the Y Kant Tori Read bullshit.

There are some parts of the official version of EM that I think are improvements over the original. Other stuff I feel should have been left alone.

I love it when that happens -- you put something away and then find it brilliant later! I love that c.d., btw.

I am going to wait to buy the new one, I would have rather heard the Jon Brion produced one first (which, at the time, I didn't parktake in because I knew I'd buy it but now it is re-done by someone else? I dunno...I'm on pains meds, I'll stop typing now).

Oh, I'm glad that she didn't really hit you at her cd signing. She is so little, i don't think she would pack a mean punch. I'll stop typing for real!

I can't agree with that.

At all.

The Jon Brion versions have so much more dimension and space than the Elizondo versions.

And that's just from a mix perspective. We're not even talking about the actual arrangements which are so vastly superior that it's silly.

I bought the new one yesterday. I haven't had a chance to listen to it closely enough to compare it to the Brion versions....but the dualdisc DVD has some cool live footage of her and brion playing together at Largo in LA.

There's a version of "Fast as You Can" with the mandolin player from Nickel Creek and Jon on acoustic that's pretty fun to watch.

They should have put the old version on the DVD side as an Easter Egg.

That would go against sony's spin story about fiona hating the brion versions.

They must think we're retarded.

Let me rephrase...not so much improvements as "it brought new dimensions to the songs." I think the new version of "Get Him Back" is just as much a force to be reckoned with as the old version. I do wish they kept the part in there where she extended the "n" sound when she said "keep turning that chin-nnn-nnn." That was kind of cool.

I guarantee it'll come out . . . in about 10 years when they release a Deluxe Edition on double MusiCube or whatever weirdo format is the norm in 2015. Until then . . . well, don't hold your breath. Just buy it - it's a great piece of work regardless of the changes.

AND I'm VERY happy to report that this is NOT copy-protected, as I'd seen reported quite a few places. $9.99 at Best Buy, my peoples.

I didn't have to trade anything for mine. Some dude from Sony apparently dropped some promos off at a store my friend works at and she didn't want it so I took it.

It would have been better if Fiona Apple had physically hit you today

I was wondering how this wasn't said earlier in the thread.

I wonder how much he'd get out of the lawsuit....

He wouldn't. It'd have to hurt for there to be a lawsuit. L, I'd pay to have her hit me.

Although she has very sad looking eyes that make it look like she was beaten as a child

She was raped as a child. Does that count?
