So, I went with my fiance', step-mom and dad to the Dolly Parton show last night in Dallas.

She's probably 60 years old now, but she is total pro - goes all out for the show - and, I really enjoy seeing people like her (i.e. - icons in their industry/genre) who constantly praise their audience for the success they've had over the years.

She's a funny lady - and I believe a dandy of a songwriter, playing songs (that she wrote) that ranged from mountain/bluegrass, to gospel, pop, country, blues, big band, etc. And I think she's a fantastic musician as well. She played the harmonica, flute, guitar, piano, two guitar variations (that I don't remember the name of) and her damn fingernails to imitate a washboard and the sound of a typewriter from her song "9 to 5".

Overall, a very different evening of music for me, but, I really enjoyed it - and it was even better that I got to see my dad and step-mom at a concert that they enjoyed.

She's a genuine goddamn talent. Never seen her live, but I respect her more than most in music in any time period.

Getting past the pablum and her 80's image, Parton is a remarkable musician.

She's very cool & the real deal, even though 99 % of her music isn't my type of "thing" .

If you have Direct TV with the RFD Channel, they show the old Porter Waggoner show that she kinda started out on. I remember that show from my youth, & it's a kick to see it now.

i never heard the white stripes version, but i got her greatest hits because of a $1 price tag and a particularly cute picture of her on the cover.

Yeah, she's good shit. I like Mindy Smith's cover of Jolene too.

I love Dolly Parton. Not only does she have amazing talent, she comes across as totally down to earth, someone I'd love to hang out with on a porch just shootin' the breeze. Plus, she's naughty...she may dress all girly-girly, but she ain't afraid to cuss! Ohhh, and she's always the first to make fun of herself -- her more than ample chest, big hair, shoes and wardrobe. You can't help but like her personality.

"Workin 9 to 5" was one of my favourite songs as a kid. And I hated country.

That said, "Jolene" and "Coat of Many Colors" are some of my favourite songs of hers as well.
