I just looked at the sticky “Hey Obnerians who did NOT come via CMJ…” Noticed a few of you came from this board, click the link and read some of the more recent posts. Though admittedly I didn’t spend too much time there.

History: Obner has only been in existence for a little over a month. Most of us come via CMJ message board but it kept breaking down. You add the fact that no one really knows when and if they get their issues of the magazine month in and month out. So we decided to take matters in our own hand and make sure, that if CMJ goes belly up, the message board will continue. Our name comes from our very own King of Carrot Flowers, who now goes by Quiche, and was on one of his drunken rants and does mean what you think. We tend to have a bunch of drinking post on this board and I am only posting this because I am drunk tonight and not able to sleep myself.

We had a very strange week this week and a post were posted that should have never been. I think it was beneficial but Spade Kitty needs to come back, there is just too much history and will be surly missed.

Listmania: This really was the crowning achievement of the CMJ message board. We asked the members to list their all time favorite albums. Which in itself was amazing but WhineyCMJ decided to take it a step further and compile everyone’s list to one grand list. Here is a link (

I learned more about music because of this than any major publication list could ever offer. Listmania 2005 will happen again and only hope Whiney is on board. This time however it has to happen on Obner. Shmoo best of 2004 should appear this week.

Anyways, long winded I know but wanted to give you a bit of info and I can’t sleep.

Thanks, even though I've been a CMJer for a couple years, IIRC. Rave Recs (at audioreview.com) has a good group of people, but the group has been dwindling unfortunately. And in case you haven't heard, it is an opinionated and ornery bunch.

Appreciate the welcome and background. Rave Recs was and continues to be a great place, though it has lost a lot of vital contributors in the last eighteen months or so. All you CMJers/Obnerians ought to check it out there too, I think you'll find it worth the effort, as there is a lot of good opinion there still, and quality people.

"All You" could possible include me, which needs to come with some sort of warning label, probably.

Something like "Do not take this man seriously. It's always a mistake. Oh, and he likes Kate Bush. A lot."

Opinionation is what strongified our beforehandfathers guttitudinal progressions.

Yes, I think we do but we are still in our transition state, born October 25. Additionally, we got into it with another board on Wednesday and we have sort of changed because of that. I’m hoping we get back to normal and not become a one-sentence site. People around here really know a thing or two about music and can put things in prospective. It’s also November/December and new releases slow and so does our music chat. Once the end of the year list start to happen than things will kick in again. It’s hard to talk about music all the time so we do a bunch of NMR (non-music related) topics as well. It keeps the board going and keeps things interesting. The weekend is a lot slower then the weekdays with work hours being the busiest.

The thing I didn’t explain about listmania was that each member contributed a list of his or her top 100 albums of all time. It was a monumental task as a lot of sites have a top 20 or 30 but with 100 you are able to breath a bit. We use to have a thread of everyone’s list but couldn’t find it. If you stick around long enough you will be able to participate in the 2005 edition.

I had no idea there we so many of you, and we needed the new blood. Davey has quickly become my favorite new boarder. If he is really into something he will break it down, analyze it, and give you a great picture of what that album sounds like. I wanted to put that out there so he knows that it hasn’t gone unnoticed and I’m sure other have picked up on that as well. We do have people like that; F’n’B and Billy G come to mind. If you all are big music geeks like that then we are the one’s who are lucky that you found us.

I think the average age is about 30, with a core group of about 125.
