For me the one band that doesn't really represent my taste would be King Diamond. Either that band or Yngwie Malmsteen. It stems from my first guitar teacher being a shredder.

Not sure if there's been a thread like this before, but I'm still buzzed from last night and indulging in some hair of the dog.

I'm trying to think of one, but the thing is, I have and have always maintained that my tastes are all over the map..Ever since I was a wee Obner....Nothing in my collection really stands out to me as being oddball.... I have Tori Amos and Slayer; Expose's Greatest Hits and My Dying Bride Bootlegs..

For someone else looking at my colelction, it may seem oddball..But to me, it's all in my realm.

I don't actually have anything by Expose, but I do have that Bills Bills Bills single from whomever did that...

And I don't actually have any MDB bootlegs.

So, for me, "out of left field" would be anything considered "good" by other people.

Perhaps Shania Twain's Up!:) would be my most out-of-left-field album.

on opposite poles but liked quite well:

Harry Belafonte and Type O Negative

In fact, they should do a collaboration.

Girls, maybe? There was a girl, twelfth grade, or first year of college, into whose pants he so wanted to get, but she played hard enough on d that he succumbed to B&S to prove his romantic authenticity?

Naaaah, Loog was never much of a Slayer...

I actually typed this post earlier and erased, but I'll have a go now:
My tastes are oft-discussed and oft-derided, but what most people don't realize is:
I like The Beatles almost as much as The Stones
I like Belle and Sebastien
Tribe Called Quest is in my Top 5 rap groups
I own Neil Diamond's "Hot August Nights"
and I am sure there are more that I could throw out if I was looking at my CD collection.

Kinda like Bob and PopTodd's 4Hs..I love pop hooks and love harmonies.

I often say I like all music except opera but I don't even think I hate opera that much. Just the people that go to opera. Rich bastards.

My tastes are a bit all over the place too.

But for an example, I'll say I bet you guys didn't know I absolutely love the early GnR stuff.

I got an actual double take from someone at work today when he realized that I was listening to Motorhead.

I know others said this by now, but I listen to ALL music, no particular type.

It has always been wierd to me to think that many musicians (who must love music, naturally??) Play the same style [rock, alt.country, jazz]forever. There are exceptions, but fewer than one might expect.
