I guess this is destined to be one of those albums that I just can't figure out what all the goo-goo-eyed raves are about. Seems to be one of the most critically acclaimed releases this year, but every time I listen it leaves me kind of scratching my head. Sounds like a slowed down version of Depeche Mode or something. I mean, it's likeable enough, but I just can't believe so many people get so excited over it. Have you seen the scores at metacritic? Yikes, a perfect score from Uncut and many at the 9/10 mark. I'm just not feeling it. Show me some of that Last Exit love - how many hands for top 5?

This album is too advanced for some of you.

It's sorta like this year's Postal Service, which I liked.

edit: it's also kind of a throwback to some 80's new order type stuff.

this was my no. 2. the melodies are really smooth, as are the beats. its a really great downtempo album and all the phrasing is memorable. i dont really think it was like postal service. but it was more like mixing slowed-down trip-hop beats with electro-pop. it didn't get too weird but was quirkily pallatable.

Yeah, that about sums it up.

It'll probably make my Top-10.

Friggin' liberals... :P

This is perfect background music for trendy bars that I choose not to go to.

Ooh. Nasty. Now you know I'm going to have to hear this. Just to decide if I'm a "some."

dead wrong

seriously, album of the year.

this is heaps and bounds better than the incredibly boring and hackneyed "downtempo/chillout" music people play in those clubs.

i know it sounds smooth as shit. but don't let the cover fool you.

its like a minimalistic funk timebomb that carries so much energy in each throbbing beat and burp. its an electro-funk revolution waiting to happen (or maybe already is. .)

i think fastnbulbous nails it in his review.

first time i heard this, i thought there was no way i'd listen again. i gave it a couple more spins, and it seriously grew on me. not top 20 or anything, but i definitely enjoy it.

Yeah, that's kind of my reaction too. I do like it but it just seems so understated that I don't really remember much about it. While I'm listening there are some very nice parts that I really like. Just don't feel the overall love for it.......yet. Guess I'm just not that big a fan of down tempo stuff right now, at least not with this many synthy beats. It is pretty nice, but maybe just too light.

Love it! This is the type of comments I was hoping for. Gives me a possible new appreciation of the album when I read stuff like this. Which track would you pull out if making a mix? Not so sure about that electro-funk revolution, though...still sounds kinda like Depeche Mode to me ;)

But I am gonna keep listening...

it's downtempo for those that don't listen to or aren't exposed to quality downtempo.
