Getting started with the program:

1) Go to https://share.clevercactus.com/share/join.xhtml and enter your name and e-mail address. A password will be mailed promptly to that address. Your username is your e-mail address.

2) Go to http://share.clevercactus.com/ and login. If you would like to change your password to something more meaningful than a number, click "basic settings" and then "change password" in the menu on the left of the screen.

3) Follow the link on the page or go to http://share.clevercactus.com/share/home.download.xhtml to download the software for your operating system

4) Run the install program and follow the steps to install on your system

5) Once installed, run the Clever Cactus application. Verify your username and password, etc.

Getting people on your list:

1) On obner, send a private message to FT, who will send you an updated list of the names and e-mail addresses of all of the obnish who are on CC

2) Go back to share.clevercactus.com and click "add/invite" on the menu on the left side of the page. Enter the name (doesn't have to be exactly like the one on FT's list) and e-mail of someone you'd like to share with. Repeat for all of the users you want on your list.

3) When a user accepts your invitation or you accept someone else's (you'll get an e-mail if someone invites you to their list), they will appear in your "People" list in the CC application that you downloaded. When you have accepted one or more new contact(s), click on "All" in the "Group" pane in the CC application and click the "Share" button right above that. Click "Share Folder with Contact(s)" and select the folder where your music files are to share them with everyone on your list.

4) In order for you to get other peoples' files, they have to expressly share their folders with you, too. If they're online on CC, send them an instant message. Otherwise, PM them on obner and ask them to share with you on CC.

5) Once someone's sharing with you, highlight an online user in the CC "People" pane, click the "View" button, then click "View folders shared by this contact". Browse their files, and when you see a song/album you want, click the file/directory to highlight it, and then click the "Request" button to download it.

Finally. Some instructions that even I can understand.

Okay. I'm trying this now...downloading the software as I type. Expect some questions soon.

I dl'd it but am lost after that. How much of your files can people see? how do you configure what you're going to share.

ft, I sent you an email thing for you to approve. Will do the rest to others tomorrow

Alrighty then---I can't even get past step1. I'm getting the message that "email is already registered", and can go no further. I've never tried to sign up previously and do not already have a password---so any suggestions?

I guess someone (FT?) already registered my email address--I found my password.

http://share.clevercactus.com/share/login.xhtml

click "Forgot Password" and see if you can get them to send you whatever password they think you've already got. If that doesn't work, use a different e-mail address.

Highlight a contact, then click Share-->Share folders with contact(s). From there, you will get a Windows Explorer type heirarchy wherein you can highlight which folders you wish to share, then click Select. All done.

Do you have a user list? I don't think I have you, PM your SN and email to me and I'll at least set you up with me. I may not have anything you're looking for, but it's a start.

I'm running into a roadblock at every step. I am nearly computer illiterate, so unless it runs completely smoothly, I'm not likely going to be successful.

Problem 1: it won't let me run the CC share installer because I don't have Java 1.4.2.

Problem 2: when I go to apple to d/l Java 1.4.2, it won't due to an error 95 (no mountable files)? I can't get past this point.

I'm destined to pay for all my music.

Thanx Charli- since I have a paucity of imagination, it's easier to let the creative folks do it, and then I borrow it for a while......

Sorry, Marco - Macs are where my knowledge runs out. Perhaps someone else with OSX who has gotten it to work can help out.

Okay, I just spent like an hour inviting all of you to join and share with me. I hope I get some responses...

edit: Okay. I've reinvented myself for the Clever Cacti.

I am now: rami braginsky --------> ramibraginsky@gmail.com

I apologize for hitting you up for TWO invite requests... :roll:

:cry: It looks like I celebrated too early because now it doesn't work!

When I try to start the program now it gets "stuck" in initializing. I sent off an email to their feedback and tech support departments so hopefully I'll get an answer back from them soon.

Aw, man...

Okay. I'm reloading the program under a different account/user name.

originally: south pacific ------> ramibraginsky@hotmail.com
second try: rami braginsky -----> ramibraginsky@gmail.com

I wonder if it even makes any difference...hmmm. Hope this works.

Has anyone found a away to re-assign a contact to a different group?
