You know you're living in postmodern times when you have trouble telling the band names from the song names.

Yea, its Cee-Lo with Dangermouse producing, I believe. He is singing on the track, so its more of a soul song. Really good stuff.

Is the song on here from The National exemplary of what their album sounds like? Cos if so, it explains a lot about a lot..I'll expound later.

Well, then, my theory is that albums like this and Garcade Fire are so popular around here because they are more or less composed of crescendo songs that build and build and build on themselves. This song isn't terrible, nor is anything on the Arcade Fire, but I ain't really writing home about 'em either.

Its all in what you like, I guess.

But that doesnt explain why albums "more or less composed of crescendo songs that build and build and build on themselves" are popular. Why do you think? (Im not even sure I know what you mean here, does each song build, or does the album build from track 1 to track n?)

On the Arcade Fire at least, each song follows this format

So does this song, and this is the only thing that I liked about it, but it would grate after a while (or a whole album.

Not sure why this would appeal as a whole.

That particular song is indicative of the sound of the band, but not because its builds to a crescendo - its more due to the lyricism and interplay of the guitars. Its not like they make a full album of songs that build like this one does.

Ok, then my theory is wrong, and the only thing good about that song is not offered on any of the others, and so my original assessment of the album (OPEN GAR) stands.

Arcade Fire pretty much does do this, though, Thought Iwas onto something.

this is a pretty common thing with lotsa bands though, isn't it? ESPECIALLY instrumental ones:

Mogwai, Godspeed, Pelican, Red Sparowes... you got some Crescendin' there.
