When the wheels fell off in Birmingham?

Got me my new Ike Reilly cd this weekend. I likes it lots. I got a pretty good heads up at the show he did at Schuba's over the summer, and I dig the direction he's gone with this one.

The songs aren't the raucous affairs of the previous two albums. This one's introspective. What makes it special is the sincerity with which Ike explores failure, redemption, hope, and frustration. One gets the sense he's writing from firsthand experience, which gives the music a rare poignancy.

It's not an album to throw on in the car and cruise down the road, and it's not an album to throw on in the background for audio wallpaper. It's much more intimate, bringing Reilly in close to communicate what he's got to say. His voice is enchanting, and the music, as usually supports it to a tee.

This is easily the best thing I've picked up this year.

I've already spilled some cyber-ink in some previous threads about the record. To wit: I like it.

Glad you finally got it, Bilz; I know you were privately seething that us infidels had it be4 you.

Billz is damn right. This didn't stick with me at all the first couple times I listened, but I threw it on again late last week and have listened to it at least 2-3 times a day since Friday.

It's really pretty fucking good.

Saw Ike on Saturday nite, not the best show I've seen him do. He was stumbling around pretty bad for a while, and there was no interaction whatsoever with the audience between songs. Still, they did Work Song and Dragonflies, two songs I really hope they release at some point, 'cause they're dynamite.

That said, after Saturday, I hope Ike doesn't pull a Hedberg.

yea, I was pretty hard on this at first but I've listened to it pretty much every day since I got it (infidel)...and even though I don't like it as much as Sparkle, I can't stop listening to it

Suffer for the Trust is just classic Ike, man...I think I could listen to it all day...I love What A Day and Edge of the Universe Cafe as well

now if Ike will ever get his ass to Tejas, I'll be set
