If CMJ gets their act together with distribution and subscriptions and a website that doesn't crash, they'll be fine, with or without us.

Every year there's a whole new wave of people who wake up from the radio reverie, and some of them will undoubtedly find CMJ, if it still exists. The key to that is them getting their shit together.

How we communicate isn't really dependent on them, and where you choose to post is your own business.

So I guess I'm confused as to why this is stirring up such strong emotion.

I'll check it out when it goes online, and if it's a cool place with cool posters, i'll probably contribute. In the meantime, this IS a cool place with cool posters and i'll continue to contribute.

We pleaded and asked for changes at the message board. We inquired about lost issues and eventually they would respond. The people over there are good people and really are trying to help but it did seemed like a lost cause.

This site is great and brought us up to date but at the same time it hasn’t been the same. I mirrored this in Bort’s thread and I think we have lost something in creating this site. We came together because of our love of music and we have always had NMR threads. However it seems people are more interested in those kinds of thread and our music discussion, while still there, is taking a back seat. I don’t remember a time when so many music threads got so few responses. I ultimately think that it’s just this time of year when things tend to slow down.

So maybe CMJ needs to come back with a better message board. Not everyone has come over to Obner.

That's because we are music people who like music.

I think separating MR and NMR threads into 2 different forums would help, but nobody seemed to back me up when I suggested that earlier. Everyone seemed to be in favor of mimicing CMJ's board, with music and everything else in a "Rock/Pop" forum (yet Hip-Hop gets it's own under-used forum??).

Seeing a music forum with a low activity might encourage people to step up their act when it comes to posting about music, since that is the rason we all came here in the first place. The NMRs were supposed to be a side act of sorts.

I don't see the need for seperate forums for music threads and NMR threads...I think a simple 'NMR' in front of the subject heading is enough.....Or, by even reading the subject heading, you can basically tell if its music or not....Why separate them, and people overall?

Ive made friends on this board. Music is the numbe rone thing in my life, but I dont look to talk about it 24/7, or use this board as strictly a music forum.. I look at it to just be able to chat with people I like day in and out...

Whether it be here or at cmj.com, it doesnt matter to me....

I think alot of us know eachother well enough, that all of our own personal favortie bands and genrers are somewhat known, so there is no need for topics over and over about the same stuff. So we branch out into other aspects of our lives.....

I still have love for CMJ. And, as noted, we have no whiney here. I'd post at both if there was any action at cmj at all.

I agree with a lot of those points and a music board that only talked about music would be extremely boring. This is also why this is the dead time because of no new releases. It’s just strange that these music topics are dieing so fast. Quite a few people have not come over or post a lot less. We have been able to get a few new people but some are getting a bit frustrated as the sacristies remarks are now there. Some will stay and some won’t but I would rather grow then shrink. I don’t want to turn into a one-sentence site; there are enough of those out there already.

I just care because of what I have learned from this site. Maybe I should detach a little bit.

True, but isn't this community going to get kinda stagnant once people stop refering newcomers to the CMJ boards over here? It's nice to hang out with old friends, but new friends can be a good thing. (It can be a really bad thing, too - i.e. street teamers & 4030-types - but maybe that's worth it to occasionally be introduced to a cool new person.) Just my $0.02...

Bingo. The CMJ people have said a LOT of things over the years, but I've seen little action. I've never been a fan of the magazine myself...I just liked the board. How some of you guys have put up with the enormous amount of bullshit CMJ has doled out on occasion is beyond me.

i like the obner. if cmj improved then maybe i'd post there again, but i don't really see a reason to abandon this place. it hardly seems stagnant with street teamers and the hipinion-ers passing through.
