AMG recommends A Dream In Sound. I trust you people much more.

yay!

When the Red King Comes is my favorite by them and was their first full band release (Andrew did ...Phantom Limbs a few years earlier under the Elf Power name but it was really just him mostly). For their first 4 albums, Red King is the must lush and intricate and musically interesting, and it rocks a great deal too. A Dream in Sound is also very good and feels more like a solid collection of songs as opposed to WTRKC's more cohesive and connected feel. The Winter is Coming is a much darker record than the other 2--almost dirge like in parts and definitely has its own 'mood'--but it's also a great record. The first record with pretty much just Andy is 4-track tape feel kind of stuff but it has its own charm.

I must say that I have not listened to Creatures and the latest one very much to give a fully formed opinion on them. I believe Yail Bloor is the latter-day Elf Power guru on this board, perhaps he or someone else can give you the goods on those. But for my 2 cents, get Red King.

I wish I'd taken advantage of having them spring up in athens when I was there. I think I only saw them once, and didn't pay much attention.

I read in Athens' Flagpole that CREATURES would be the favorite Elf Power album for people who don't like Elf Power. Pretty acurate, I guess, since I never really got into A DREAM IN SOUND, but I can dig some CREATURES fo' sho'.

Get CREATURES - easily digestible twee rawk. If you wear it out quick move on to DREAM.

You don't mean Athens, OHIO, do you? Because I go to school in Athens, Ohio and no one comes up here for anything...period - expect maybe the booze-fest that is Halloween.

I have the Red King album. I don't really enjoy it.

Yup, GA. When I was an undergrad, we had elf power, macha, the drive-by truckers, the star room boys, neutral milk hotel, jucifer, and strangely enough jennifer nettles, who went through various incarnations and is now in that awful pop-country band Sugarland.
