I'm back after a much-needed vacation to Maui... I'll post pics soon. Anything important I missed? You know, the usual-- heated race/culture arguments, boastful drinking stories, recaps of Lost episodes... oh, and important music news/recommendations? ;)

(y'all didn't even notice I was gone, didja?)

Welcome back, Dana! I noticed, damnit!

Recent purchases include Lightning Bolt, DangerDoom, Wolf Parade, MMJ, and the Thumbsucker soundtrack (Spree & Elliott Smith). I'm sure you'd like the last three if you haven't heard them yet.

I suspected, but I didn't really know.

Any hot bikini/beach pics? (considers turning images back on...)

You need to read Konstantinl's "Hoise of Coffee" post, and take HideousLump's visual album covers quiz.

Oh, and Wilma. (Though no particularly noteworthily interesting discussion, it's just...well, relevant.)

Other than that, nuthin'.

I mean, c'mon, you were in Maui. What could you possibly have missed that can't be one-upped with, "...but I was in Maui"?

true, true... I made a point not to watch the news at all while on vacation. But I will tell you all that that big dude called Iz is like a fucking demigod in Hawaii. I guess maybe he's the Polynesian version of Bob Marley???? I dunno. But you couldn't go anywhere without hearing one of his cd's, seeing one of his cd's on sale, seeing his concert dvd (I shit you not, they had it on eterna-loop in the helicopter tour waiting room).

Highly recommended, though you should read his response in this thread first to get context: http://www.obner.org/bb/viewtopic.php?t=12264

ok, I'll check the ever-entertaining Konstantin thread....

btw, here's a little sneak peek. Took this video on the last day we were there. This was looking down on a smaller bay at the end of Nahiku Road off of the Hana Highway. They had predicted bigger waves starting up this weekend, and while you might not think these are huge, these were probably some of the biggest we'd seen on the trip. And these two guys were out there on their own, while their buddy hung out at the top of the cliff with us, yelling down to them when the next set was rolling in.

Nice waves...damn I miss that place more and more. Can't wait to see the pics, too. I guess you took the Hana Highway tour? Pretty nutty road, although we did see where Willie Nelson and Jim Nabours live.

Lost was wasn't too bad in your absence. Of course we don't get any new episodes for about 3 weeks now...

Those are some awesome shots, particularly the aerial ones. I never got to do that while I was there, it looks like it was really worth it. Same with the sunrise bike ride, a friend of mine did that as well, but I missed it. Too bad, because it clearly looks like an amazing view.

I guess you had a great time, eh? :D

Maui is absolutely beautiful! Funny how some of those same shots mirror mine! And isn't that helicopter ride spectacular? When we crested the top of the volcano, it was one of the most breathtaking visions I had ever seen.

Btw, this comment made me laugh (image of Rick from behind):

There is actually another natural blowhole behind Rick, and you can see it splash a bit to his left.
A Beavis & Butthead moment. ;)

Ha, I came close to captioning that picture with "look at the blowhole behind the blowhard."

Hey Dana, weclome back. I'm glad you had a good time.

As for me, I recently discovered that the man I have the hots for scratches his balls and smells his fingers.

i'm still waiting to get through most of last season of lost, but nonetheless i'm glad you got to hit the beach. i'm in a cold office with a fire alarm going off and construction happening 15 feet from my head. so yeah, i feel you on needing a vacation.

Young people today, do you ever think I would have been promoted to Under Secretary in the Lowerarchy if I was out and about vacationing in Maui? Huh? Huh?

(things I never thought I'd say...)

Nice blowhole!

I've never been, but it looks like a smaller, cleaner, richer version of Fiji.
