Sheesh! For those tampon inquisitors, when tampons first became available to the public, they were originally made with cardboard applicators. Some people still prefer the ol' school style, I guess. Though, there are certain brands that make the cardboard a bit more "pliable" (for lack of a better word) for better ease. Environmentally, I believe the cardboard is safer and decomposes quicker than the plastic.

Interestingly enough, when I was in the UK last, I couldn't find any plastic applicator brands.
