No carbs.

Any no carb recipes for me to substitute?

I'll trade you some carb laden recipes for them...

Dude, eating NO carbs isnt healthy. Cutting back, yeah maybe.

Eating less and excercising is why you are losing weight, Phil, not some bullshit Atkins.

Serious question: You consulting a doctor on this diet?

Eat what you want on Thanksgiving, jesus christ man.

You can definitely eat a lot of protein and SOME carbs. Completely eliminating carbs, as Chris stated, is unhealthy.

I don't eat 0 carbs, but i hold myself to less than 20 grams a day. And I'm eating more than ever, i'm hungry all the damn time, and I talked with my dad about it, and he warned me about potential liver and kidney damage, he takes my blood pressure monthly, I haven't had steatorreah or anything like it... And it's working. I'm sure the biking isn't hurting either.

But ketosis is a way to lose weight, and it's working... so why fuck with it? High carbing for a day means no carbing for 4-5 days to get back into ketosis, and in the meantime you're looking at some weight gain.

I'm not trying to get skinny for a chick or nothing, I want to get skinny so i can have the best shot possible at getting hired as someone's bassist when i make that move to l.a.

Which means no mashed potatoes, no green bean casserole with french fried onions, no biscuits, no sweet potato casserole with the roasted marshmallow top, and absolutely no pie.

And thanksgiving is my favorite holiday ever.

Anyhow, it'll be worth it once i get the weight down, and then I'll ease into some more carbs and just generally eating healthier and exercising regularly. Just getting rid of pop and sugar, and drinking more water has helped loads.

Fat Flabby Annie was incredibly big
She weighed just about sixteen stone
And then a fake dietician went and put her on a diet
Now she looks like skin and bone
She looks like skin and bone

Do the meditation and yoga
And she's thrown away the good food guide
And she's given up the alcohol and pizzas
And the pies and now she looks as if she's ready to die,
You can't see her walk by

Don't eat no mashed potatoes,
Don't eat no buttered scones
Stay away from carbohydrates
You're gonna look like skin and bone.

Living on the edge of starvation
And she says she's got no appetite
And her father and her mother
And her sisters and her brothers
Couldn't see her when she walked by
You can't see her walk by.

She don't eat no mashed potatoes,
She don't eat no buttered scones
Stay away from carbohydrates
You're gonna look like skin and bone.

She used to be so cuddly,
She used to be so fat,
But oh what a sin cos she's oh so thin
That she lost all the friends that she had,
She looks like skin and bone

If you look flabby
And you feel overweight,
And you wanna lose a couple of stone,
Take a crash course diet do your daily exercises
And you'll look like skin and bone.

Come on rattle them bones,
Put your hands up to the ceiling,
Bend your hips and touch your toes,
Do your daily exercises,
You're gonna look like skin and bone,

Don't eat no mashed potatoes,
Don't eat no buttered scones
Don't eat no carbohydrates
You're gonna look like skin and bone.

Yes, it works Phil, but only in the short term. As soon as you get to your goal weight and start eating carbs again, it's gonna come right back. Maybe not as much, but some of it will come back.

Are you doing South Beach? Because I think South Beach has you on limited carb intake for a couple of weeks, but not for a long time.

Believe me, from someone who lost about 40 pounds a few years ago, it's easier to just eat less in portion size, with a good variety of all types of food (obviously veggies are the best), and exercise. It's not easy, and it doesn't come off as fast, but it stays off longer.

Thanksgiving is all about feasting. Going low cal / low carb on Thanksgiving is like not giving out any presents on Christmas. Like Kawanza.

Give yoself a break - feast it up.

This and what Dana said, as doing no carbs just ain't the way to go. For health reasons and at the end, that weight is going to come back. I did cut down on them substantially this year, and in combination with a serious increase in exercise, dropped about 10 lbs, give or take.

I've got a great orange flan recipe! instead of the usual pie stuff. No crust. Don't know about carb count tho.

I thought it's not socially acceptable to dine on domesticated animals in this country regardless of carb count.

Have some carbs, a day isnt gonna harm you

your brain is starving - ketogenesis (ketosis whatever) can only supply up to 50% of the energy your brain needs if i remember correctly

the exercise you are doing - bike riding, right? - is much more effective in losing weight then your diet

But you forgot the best part. Not only is he a bass player, but... allow me to Google here

In July, 2003, Randy undewent the Minimally Invasive Fobi-Pouch Gastric Bypass Surgery in July 2004 at Tri City Regional Medical Center in Hawaiian Gardens, California. The hospital is the home of the Center for Surgical Treatment of Obesity under the medical direction of Dr. Mathias A.L. Fobi, M.D. F.A.C.S. Gastric bypass surgery involves the separation of the stomach into a smaller functional stomach and is usually performed to help the chronically obese. The Fobi technique inserts a ring around the new, smaller stomach to prevent it from enlarging. It is extremely dangerous (1 in 200 chance of death during the procedure) and extremely uncomfortable afterwards. Randy is recovering fine and has lost a lot of weight.

You can replace mashed potatos with mashed cauliflower.
It's surprisingly tasty, and you can prolly find a recipe pretty easily.

You can just pig out on the turkey and ham. Veggies other than mashed potatos are also good. Stay away from desserts, stuffing, mashed potatos and bread and you're doing well.

To the nay-sayers of the Atkins diet, it does work. It's true that you can gain the weight back after you go off of it but that's true of any diet. I lost 25 pounds on it a couple of years ago and gained 10 of it back when I started gorging myself on whatever I wanted again. That's why I gained it back. Also, it's not like it promotes eating nothing but protein, you start off limiting your carbs to almost nil and then ease yourself back to a reasonable level. I'm sure the South Beach Diet is probably better but the Atkins diet isn't a bad one either in my opinion.
