Throw some good recommendations in here. I'm planning on stopping by the store on the way home tonight, so do your worst. Thanks for helping a brother out.

Dunkin Donuts is my favorite with extra cream and regular sugar.

I don't usually make it at home.

Sounds stupid, but remember unless you have a grinder don't buy beans. I usually go for Trader Joes or Hawaiian Isles Kona Coffee co

Seattle's Best is good too. Just don't buy Starbucks, solid co, acid for coffee.

My sister brought me back some from Paris that was orange flavored & maybe a bit too much. So I mixed it with some regular stuff & it was pretty good

I'll second the Dunkin Donuts and you can buy two pounds for ten dollars right now, or something like that.

I gave up coffee in an attempt to cut down of caffiene.
Now I'm addicted to Chai and Green Tea.
Enjoy your newfound coffee drinking status, but don't ever say I didn't warn you of it's slippery, caffiene-dependent backside...

Oh don't start drinking coffee, it's like crack- when you don't have it, you'll get cranky. Or at least I do. I can't function w/out coffee... and I'm totally dependent on caffiene.

But I usually get espresso beans from a mom-and-pop coffeehouse near where I live.... or Trader Joe's has some good stuff.

Coffee puzzles me.

How can something that smells so nice, taste so disgusting?

I like me some Oolong.

Damn you anti-caffeine people. I quit smoking over a year ago, and I need a new vice. Keep 'em coming. Trader Joe's you say, I need to go there anyway, but not until Thursday, probably.

Hey I'm not anti-caffeine, I'm totally caffeine dependent... I'm just warning you.

Good for you on quitting smoking, I wish I could, but the combo of coffee & cigs in the AM is my vice and w/out it- my day just doesn't start right.

i love coffee. i will scrape the sludge off the bottom of the 7-11 pot if it comes down to that. i used to frequent the hip coffee spots a lot more often when i was a younger man, but now i'm just a battered shell of my former self.

Yeah, I'm the same way. If I don't have coffee in the morning I usually have a headache for most of the day. If you can drink it in moderation and not get addicted to the caffeine, that'd be preferable in my eyes.

Cold turkey, too. My little piece of advice: just keep at it. It took me about four or five months to quit, but goddammit, it finally stuck.

Serve it with plenty of sugar, just like you get at Cuban places. It's cheap and will get your ass going in the morning.

I've quite smoking cigs and pot, sugar, yeast, most carbs and god knows what else.

You take my coffee away, I'll probably beat you with the carafe, many times until you've understood the lapse in judgement.

I loves me some late night coffee. With one cup, I am generally up for a great deal of the night, but if I don't get to have it for a day or few, it doesn't effect my mood or otherwise.

hah - spoon, i'm almost in the same boat as you are (you've quit more than me, though). my problem is that i (despite my stick-like figure) seem to have a blood pressure issue that caffeine is exacerbating. there's no way in hell that i am going to drink decaf, and i'm not ready to quit drinking coffee, either, so i'm keeping it to less than 24 ounces of coffee every other day, and testing my bp to see if caffeine looks like it is actually a strong contributor.

one way i will reduce my consumption is, starting this January, all the coffee I drink will have been hand-roasted by me. That's right folks, fair trade, organic, home roasted coffee, fresh from my freezer to my table.

what with gardening, home brewing, and now home roasting i think that i am gradually regressing to an amish condition.

but today it was costa rican la minita medium roast all the way, baby.

I'm starting to suspicion that coffee is basically all carbs, though (which is just disguised sugar to someone allergic). Haven't dared to look into it too closely. My allergist said it inhibits metabolism and dehydrates me, too. But he's on trial for malpractice right now, anyway.

I was an addict since I was 14.

I quit, cold turkey, three months ago. For health reasons. It's been bittersweet. I miss the buzz and the taste(i've been trying decaf but it gives me a weird headache sometimes) but I don't miss the feeling of anxiousness that started to go with it.

For grocery store cheaper coffe I reccomend Folgers. Otherwise I like Starbucks, don't like Caribou. Dunkin Donuts is good, and so is Intelligentsia.

<--- Randomly came out with a similar line whilst working at a boring desk job years ago. Co-worker offer to grab me a coffee, asked how I liked it and I came out with "strong and sweet.... like my men".

A slight change in my coffee drinking habits would now make it: "strong and creamy", which is interesting.

My $0.02 re coffee:

It's my main vice so I'm tempted to tell you to go all out and purchase a little stove-top coffee maker and buy yourself some preeemo ground espresso and some coffee cream. Do it up right.

Image

Those sweet little coffee makers can be found for $15. There's a bit of an initial investment, but it is definitely cheaper than shelling out $4.00 a pop at Second Cup. Espresso seems a bit harsh at first but actually has less caffeine & processing chemicals in it and is therefore better for you.

It is addictive though. How can you possibly turn away something warm, yummy, and hyper-speed-thought-producing?
