Yeah, I wondered if you remembered me and thought you might think it was weird that I mentioned meeting you. Didn't you go with us to the Flaming Lips New Year's Eve concert a couple of years ago? I almost blacked out at that show so that's an easy way to remember me.

I stumble onto the CMJ board about 5 years ago.

There I met Charli, Ampersand, timmyjoe42, epa, and many other Chicago boarders when they came to see me play, or via our CMJ lunches back in the day.

Also discovered that Charli was good friends with my sister-in-law when they were in HS.

And onebrownjeff (who came to the board separately from me) and I were in a band together in college, back in 1990-91.

That same onebrownjeff was/is a High School teacher in the KC area. And Katie, a Princess was one of his students.

Did this clarify or just confuse?

Also, I met Spade Kitty when he came to see me play a solo show (after I sent him a demo via his label), and then brought him to the boards.

Nope didn't get to go to the actual show, but if you remember I was at Anderson's house with you guys beforehand trying desperately to get a hold of the tickets through my brother's ticket broker friend. Then I drank a little more and went to a party and drank more there. ANd well, that last sentence had nothing to do with the rest.

I do remember being at the Ryan Adam's show at The Vic though a couple months later and you were there and I ran into a couple other CMJ boarders that I knew but you guys didn't and I think it was Aaron who may have referred to me that night jokingly as the Chicago CMJ ambassador or something like that cause I kept intro'ing everyone in chicago to each other at that time.

stumbled across cmj and lurked for a couple weeks before I realized majority had come over here. Then continued with the lurking until I decided to join.

No turning back now.

I found CMJ around 2000-01 because I was looking for new album reviews. I started checking out the board because most of my friends at the time weren't as obsessed with music as I was and it was a great outlet.

I learned about so many great bands because of it and Obner.

It's kinda funny because when I first told the Senator about the CMJ board he openly mocked me. Now look at him. Bloor was even more hesitant.

i only stumbled across the cmj boards while looking for information on the marathon in 2002. i've met many boarders since then and would even call a few of them my friends now. two other friends have come to these boards because they knew i visited them.

Also Finch Platte, audiobill, Jim Clark, and one lurker that I am aware of. I'm probably forgetting someone, too.

Yeah, all of the above "virtually" knew each other from RaveRecs. I don't think any of us ever went to CMJ.

I also think I know gothchick, but can't verify.

Yeah, I will admit to thinking it was weird, and bloor thought we were on ticklemonster.com...then the albums started coming..and well...

What was even funnier was telling my gf and Ze Doktor how I knew Cotton when we met up...

Yep, I brought Old Kentucky aboard. We were in bands in college, worked together, shared parctice spaces, and eventually roomed together for like a year. Never actually got to physical contact, though.

I once shook Crack's hand, met Mrs. Crack and their friend, then got up and played one song at the bar with busty and they left.

Boy, shit really looks different than you remember it when you write it down.

Edit - oh, and it's looking like a small Milwaukee Obnish will be happenin' next week, whereupon I hope to consume beer in the presence of Monty and others, briefly.

I knew nobody when I joined, and I still haven't met anybody. This is a problem I need to rectify I suppose.

I started out at CMJ and lurked for a really long time, then finally came out of my shell. I didn't know anyone prior. I haven't met any obners yet, but I'm hoping to fix that in a couple of weeks! I'll get to meet the lovely pumachik and Aural Fixation then.

Even though I don't personally know the Loog/Yail crew, I know their kind.... ;)

Ahhhh, it seeeems simple, but then the dude turns around and goes "what the fuck did you just say to me?!?" and you realize he's NOT Radcliffe, he's Charles Bremmer, retired machinist, or some such.
