More like a small scalpel.

Remember that infection I mentioned a few threads ago? Well, I've developed another one on the back of my neck that's become quite nasty. After seeing two doctors today, it was recommended that I have what they referred to as "surgery" immediately. I dunno about you, but I've never had surgery in my life. So, when someone mentions that they're gonna slice and dice me, I immediately become a bit nervous. So much so, that my blood pressure was 180/90 this afternoon.

"Do you have high blood pressure"? No. "It's high, are you hot?" No, but I am in pain. Take it again! "Nope, still 180/90. Maybe you're just a bit nervous." YOU BET I AM!!

Second doctor, who's the surgeon, didn't wish to take care of the infection in the office. "It's become very enlarged and is too close to your spine." (Sure, go ahead, put additional fear in me already!) "Rather than lance it here, I prefer to do it in a sterile environment where we can take precautions and reduce the risk of your spinal cord incurring an infection." I'm sitting there rather stunned when he further informs me that I may have to stay for 1-2 days. After dealing with my parents' health problems for so long, being in and out of hospitals, I can't even begin to tell you how much I hate going there. Aside from a brief stay when I was 7 years old for tests, I've never been required to stay in a hospital since then.

What's 1-2 days, right? Nothing, piece of cake. Right? RIIIIIGHT?!! They'll fly by in no time! So, explain why this is worrying me? Maybe it's the two mega doses of antibiotics and the pain killer I ingested a couple of hours ago that are talking.

I could use a stiff drink right about now. Think happy thoughts for me, yeah? The pain is returning and all I wanna do is sleep. :(

Sorry about the bad news, Tania. But 1-2 days really is pretty minor... just take in something you haven't had the time to read.

Yikes, I bet you'll be better in no time, at least the doc seems enlightened enough to decide to handle it under optimal conditions.
Get well soon!

Thanks, guys. I'm being a big baby, I know.

Jaggers, it'll happen as soon as the insurance approves it. Could be tomorrow or over the weekend. Doc said if the infection became too painful or grows larger, to head straight into the emergency room and get it taken care of ASAP.

I can't believe I'm actually considering going to work tomorrow. *shaking head* What am I thinking?

Wow! I've never had baldheaded mojo sent to me before. This is a whole new experience for me -- I can feel the healing powers already. Or is that codeine making its way through my body again? ;)

Sounds like your doctors trying to make some money!

I had a badly infected insect bite lanced and I didn't need a couple of days in hospital, it was done in the doctors surgery.

I did learn one thing from that experience though. When a doctor tells you to "look away" you better fucking look away!

Is this an infection under the skin related to the clogged pores?

If so, you'll do fine. I've seen many of these in the ER. The 1-2 day stay is just a precaution. You'll come out of this okay and relieved that this over and done with in such a short time.

Let the Obner do the worrying for you.

edit: Oh, and no alcohol while you're taking antibiotics...

Hey, I'm bald too, asshole!

And although it's spelled both ways, Om is what I've seen more, not Ohm. Although Wikipedia has it listed under Aum/Om. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aum

If you're going to send mojo, at least begin your mantra the right way, and not with a unit of resistance.

Anyhow, T, I had to drive spence to the hospital last year for an infection, and he turned out fine. And that stupid hate crime scar started getting infected once a month for six months. Always right before big gigs, and I had no health insurance, so I ended up lancing the fucker every time. Of course, i could see what I was doing, and my dad hooked me up with this bad ass antibiotic cream, guaze and tape. It was wierd to look at what appeared to be a hole in my chest. I'm glad it's been chilled out since January, cause it really puts a damper on playing. But you will be just fine, it's just bacteria, those are easy to kill, and you already have billions of them in your body, digesting food and doing other helpful things.

Think of this as an opportunity to ensnare a hot surgeon, or a male nurse, or even an orderly. Remember, the Hippocratic Oath wasn't their idea.

Explain to me why growing hair for family portraits shouldn't be an automatic disqualification, and don't give me any of this SACRIFICE nonsense.

Point taken Re: AUM/OM, though.

O.k., good point, but last time i saw you buddy, you had a nice carrot top, and then you saw how much kim dug the scalp (remember kim?), and you followed suit.

O.k. she didn't really dig the scalp, but whatever. I still lost clumps of hair when i first started teaching, and it came back some, but never like it was, and I don't want to be threadbare combover man.

I grew the damn hair for my mom. It looked like shit. It got shaved off immediately when we got home. Boy was she pissed.

Regardless, the point is I'm sexy too, you bald adonis.

I'm sure everything will be cool, T. Don't sweat the blood pressure either, 180/90 isn't that bad as your under duress The systolic is high, for sure, but your diastolic is still high normal and that's what usually concerns most physicians. Take care!
