What a fucking awesome movie..it was as good or better than all the hype...I finally got around to watching this and I was floored. Visually I can't compare it to anything that I've seen..Its superior in so many ways.

It's really good, yeah.

I've been wanting to see it again. I think it's been nearly two years since I saw it in the theater

It reminded me of 'Kids' but uh...like a 1000x more violent. Good stuff.

City of Man which was a TV series based kind of around the same theme & uses some of the same actors & was made by the same production co (o2) is currently shopping for US dist. So we should see it on DVD here soon. A Brazilian friend of mine really liked City of Man & he told me about 1 episode, crazy, let's just say crazy.

I was lucky enough after I had seen City of God on DVD to see it again on the big screen, that was fun.

this is one of the best movies i've seen in the last few years, especially in a theater. all i knew going into it was that it was about brazilian gangs. so i was absolutely floored.

i'd follow up "city of god" with "bus 174". a good documentary about a street kid who takes a busload of passengers hostage in rio. they follow his life from birth up to the hostage taking. it's actually not too far removed from what you see in "city of god". depressing stuff.

Great Movie, visually impressive. The Brazilian Goodfellas...not made better just b/c its foreign, you indie snobs ;)

I don't think there's that many extras on the dvd, which is why I haven't bought it yet. I think there's just a documentary and some trailers.

This is the best Gangsta movie since Goodfellas. Ridiculous cinematography. So fucking gritty it is unbelievable.

Yeah, those films make a sobering one two punch. Very interesting to watch them back to back.
