They do have alcohol at every mass... And their church festivals OPENLY encourage inebriation.

My family is Catholic, and becoming an alcoholic is simply part of the experience. Other priorities include giving birth to at least five children, playing bingo at church events, and trying to take the pope seriously.

I like that he's German. We need an austere, severe taskmaster at the helm right now.

And elderly molos!

I mean, can you believe there are actually two men who claim to be Christian running in one election. If I weren't a churchy, I wouldn't vote.

Sometimes you get two guys that are nominally christian but really worship hating the gays or tobacco money or Standard Oil. These two guys are christians first and pawns of big business and special interest groups second, and that concerns me as i find outspoken christians off-putting and scary.

Then vote for Tim Kaine, as a Democrat, he's really just paying lip service to this shit so he won't get out-Jebused by that other guy.

Or, vote Russ Potts, I love legitimately insane third party candidates who only get in races to ruin the guy from their party, cos no one wanted the crazy guy as the nominee in the first place.

I'd be surprised if Bernie Sanders had a religious affiliation, but technically he's and Independent (and gonna be a Senator!! -- VT)

I bet Borg has a list at his fingertips, but there is an openly gay Republica (at least one) Jeff Flake (R-AZ)

Yeah not even the massive political funraising power of Sen. LooGar can overcome a candidate who spouts off about "not getting this whole Jesus thing"

It is akin to a candidate who shows up at press conferences in a hood and sports a "IH8NGRS" liscence plate.

It just makes people uncomfortable.

I was gonna say this..an atheist in office is a strange proposition, and not too likely.

And, in Alabama that license plate means you win 60-40

Culbert Olson was an atheist and he served as the governor of California from 1939 to 1943. I also think there is a strong possibility that Senator Barry Goldwater was at least an agnostic based on speeches he gave on religion.

Like Goldwater, Michael Dukakis was also unusually secular for a high-profile politician.

I think I remember Jesse Ventura saying some naughty things about religion a few years ago.

Goldwater and Dukakis lossed by record margins as well.

Ventura was one-term-and-done.

... But, the pink elephant in the room is Reagan. Ronald and Nancy rarely went to Sunday Service, instead having ministers to the White House. But only that sometimes. Plus, for ending his speeches, "May Got continue to bless America", Reagan never put the Pulpit in bully-pulpit.

How many of y'all are in VA? Just curious...I'm in one of the 'burgs.

Every election time is the same for me....vote for who you dislike the least...ok, well vote against the Repugs...the independents who run in VA are always freakin' crazy...so as a heathen, socialist, I generally default to the not-as-in-your-face churchy Dems.
