I have never heard of The Killers, thus I throw the decision upon the wisdom of the Court of Obn. Guide me!

BMG also says:
On their electrifying debut, “Hot Fuss,” Las Vegas four-piece The Killers twist the melodic synth-rock sounds of The Cure and The Psychedelic Furs into a dazzling array of urgent dance-fueled shapes. Along with Franz Ferdinand, The Killers have revitalized the sounds of classic modern rock for a new generation of fans.

    * Features Somebody Told Me, Mr. Brightside, All These Things That I've Done and more.

    * “Somewhere in a parallel universe Molly Ringwald is running down a high school corridor to the sound of The Killers.” - Q Magazine

    * “This album is all Killers, no filler.” - Rolling Stone

The album falls into sameness as it progresses and it's not very original, but it's got a lot of energy. Franz Ferdinand with more synth and less strut.

It's worth owning. A few tracks like Mr. Brownside and All These Things That I've Done hint that they really could be no-filler eventually. But that's not true on this album.

I like it. Won't put it on a best-of list.

Ditto that ditto. I did put Mr. Brightside on my year end mix, because I can't seem to get enough of that song.

Heard that song on the radio yesterday but didn't know what it was or who it was til I read a review on amazon that quoted the lyrics.

I loved that song. I'm going to buy the album now because of it.

Have to admit, saw them on the O.C last week and liked what I had heard of them then too.

It's a fun album and last year it may have made my top twenty, but there's too much this year fighting for a spot. You'll like it, methinks. And I'll send you a copy of my year end mix in the meantime.

If you'd take the advice of those websites you listed then you deserve to listen to this album.

If they held back on the synthiness/slickiness it would be a better and longer lasting album. That being said I've only pulled it out on a few occasions cuz the wifey likey and I can livey with it.

It's above average, but not super.

The only song on there that I can not stand is "Smile like you mean it"
Horrible.

On similar lines, I actually prefer Action Action, Don't Cut Your Fabric To This Year's Fashions -- the production is a little hot (and therefore fatiguing to listen to), but other than that, it's pretty rawkin'.

Mr Brightside is one of my favourite songs of the year actually. I guess I will echo everyone else and say that the album is above average, but never quite hits "great". It would probably make my Top 20 this year, if only for the first half of the album.

i think that this is one of those cds where you can get away with d/ling the singles and passing on the rest.

Their stuff isn't anything you haven't already heard but it's a good CD. Very catchy for the most part. Plus, there's a song about me on there (Andy, You're a Star) so I have to like it.

"the killers? whaaaa?"

i'd say the first half of the album is pretty good but about the last 5 songs or so are very average. i've been meaning to buy it but i have a burnt copy so it's not really at the top of my list.

they sounded like absolute shit when I saw them on late night tv.

The album must have been heavily polished up.

I rec'd a copy of this and will say that it perfectly harmless pop with synths and guitars.

I don't really have much use for it after the first 4 songs, which are pretty great pop songs IMO.

I'll pull it out as the anitdote after some heavy "involved" listening.
