Okay, I said this one was gonna be a ballbuster and it is. It was my junior-senior year in high school and along with 1993 the most formative year of my music-listening history. To choose these 9 was extremely hard and I omitted some really big contenders: the final Pixies album, Trompe Le Monde which was instrumental in getting me to listen to college rock/alternative/indie/what-have-you and is sometimes my favorite of theirs, and the best Superchunk album No Pocky for Kitty. Still, these nine records should ALL get votes.

i went with Nevermind.

the only album on their that meant anything to me was Ten, and i havne't listened to that in 10 years or so. The only other album on there that i know is "blue lines" and i could never understand why anyone would care about it. The only song i really liked turned out to be a cover.

i liked/loved a few songs off of the PE one, but nowhere near as much as Nevermind.

Those top five are untouchable classics to me. Probably the toughest year I will have to choose from. Ended up going with Soundgarden because I could only vote for one.

From the above list, it's Bandwagonesque.

Uncle Tupelo's Still Feel Gone?

Teenage Fanclub and Nirvana are the only ones from your list that I even like. 1991 wasn't really a "ballbuster" for me. I went with "other" with my write-in candidate being The Wedding Present "Seamonsters"

How can you run an indie pop label though and not include Matthew Sweet "Girlfriend" on your list?....puzzles me.

Damn this is a tough one for me.

I was a 15-16, a sophmore in high school and was obsessed with Ten, Nevermind, Out of Time, Achtung Baby, NWA(not 91') and Gish.

I listened to those incessantly and they opened a lot of doors for me muscially.

In hindsight were they the best albums of that year.........I'll have to chew on this one for a bit.

While I think Nirvana's 'Nevermind' is the most significant album, my personal favorite is MBV's 'Loveless.'

I would have put Dinosaur Jr - 'Green Mind' as an other response but I try to stick to the list when I can.

Never really listened to Girlfriend much, although I know I should've.

I tried to spray to all fields, but included mainly albums that heavily influenced me. I totally forgot Achtung Baby too.

I agree.
But still, I'm goig with "Other" --- Matthew Sweet - Girlfriend -- the best power pop record since the breakup of Big Star.

I had you pegged for Shrimpboat "Duende"

Other notables not included for 1991:

Talk Talk "Laughing Stock"
Ice T "O.G."

Will we ever see a '1991' again? My god, there was some shit being recorded that year.

That said, had to go Nevermind.

EDIT: I see Tribe's 'Low End Theory' and Mudhoney's 'Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge' were also out that year. Awesome.

Damn. That was 1991, wasn't it?
I'm changing my vote (but just barely).

Another great record that came out that year that nobody will vote for was:
Dogbowl - Flan

I've been singing this album's praises for almost 15 years now and still, no one is listening to me. It's brilliant.

I have it PT... I don't madly love it, but it definitely gets a few listens each year.

How'd I forget that one? Well, if I could vote again I'd vote for Achtung Baby but I can't so Loveless remains my choice.

Ice Cube "Death Certificate" beats all these "punk fools with a base-ball bat"

Well, the first two obvious ones for me (as well) were Nevermind and Ten. Some of the others are favorites too, but none are in the same category of the first two for me. (Slint, MBV, etc.)

However, radio, video, and national exposure have also burnt me out greatly on both of those records...

My thrid favortie of the list is the only record I can still listen to and get chills from...

My vote is for GISH by the Smashing Pumpkins. (by Nevermind and Ten canceling eachother out).

I would've voted "Other" for Talk Talk - Laughing Stock, but I voted for Slint instead.

Mercury Rev - Yerself Is Steem also came out in '91.

Those, Loveless, and Nevermind are probably my favorites from that year.
