What what? Anyone own a record store is what I am asking.

I wasn't one of them either.

Anyway, the idea is that I'm losing confidence in my ability to get into a school that I really want to go to, and therefore I'm unsure I want to go to school at all. If not, then I need a backup plan. While I like my job, I don't want to stay here, so one of my options, perhaps an unrealistic one, is to open a record store in Barcelona. I want to know what it takes.

i would think that moving to barcelona would be the hardest part. it seems like few of us really know what the business climate is in barcelona for record stores. perhaps a banana stand is more realistic.

I have a friend from high school who lives there now, working for Accenture (formerly Andersen Consulting), so I have someone to talk to about the Barcelona part. A more realistic option is doing what she does, but I'm not ready for realism, I'm only ready for dreams.

I agree with chase about the business climate. I've been to Barcelona, and most seem content to buy American top 40 from their Virgin Megastores.

But I never saw any banana stands. Perhaps a tapas cart.

I never saw the Virgin Megastore there (and I lived there for studied months in 1999 and then went back to visit this year), but there was FNAC.

There are a lot of indie stores there, but I guess they're mostly used record stores. If I remember correctly, I bought albums from Mercury Rev and Papas Fritas while in Barcelona.

I'm guessing it has to do with bandwidth limits at the sites you took them from. Feel free to upload them to obner if they're under 10k. Then they should work all of the time.

so back to the matter at hand:

1) what sells in barcelona? are you interested in that sort of stuff?

2) would you have to learn to speak basque?

3) can you get a small business loan in spain?

1) As I said, there are indie stores there. But while I did mention Barcelona, the idea of owning a record store can be applied to any location.

well for what it's worth, when they opened the last store that i worked at, the owner just went to a one-stop (which is where you usually purchase your emergence product on a monday for tuesday, or later in the week if you're running out of major label stuff before the weekly order ships, etc) and basically ordered an entire store at once, which he then augmented with grateful dead cds and whatever else his misguided brain told him that the kids were into. i assume that his acounts with the majors kicked in after that, although from what i'm told most of them won't deal with you unless you've got 2 or more stores (or probably if you're pumping a lot of product out).
