damn, i've been working on this since around april, looking seriously starting around august, and i FINALLY bagged a new job yesterday. i can finally leave this Qwagmire. bad news is i'm only seeing a 15% salary bump, but the good news is it looks like a great (IT development) job.
and one of its perks is the ability to continue to jam to music.
for elephantstone, it's Level3 in broomfield. for a 5+ year q vet, it has as good if not better benefits all-around except maybe time off, but counting vacation+sick-time+holidays altogether, i'm only going down by 2.5 days, and i'll go up on that by 5 days in my 3rd year. Quarterly-loss-wise, they're a little better, but they have more ability to move into new tech areas faster for quicker $ turnaround, imo.
one of the only negative points is my commute time will go up to around 1.5 hours round-trip a day. that's gonna suck until we can find a place closer to my (and my wife's) job. we'll have to move about 40-ish miles north and closer to the mountains, so it'll be maybe a degree-or-two colder too. :shiver:
i was looking everywhere possible, from cally to WI/IL to nyc, but the reality is most employers are looking locally, which limited my ability for red state self-extraction. thankfully, the job i landed was with the best place i've been able to find along my job search.
it's been a long, sometimes frustrating journey to this day. glad it has come.
so i have enough vacation time to take off from dec 18 through january 2, and will give my notice dec 15/16 probably, working a couple days then taking the rest of the year off, starting anew for 2005.
go john kerry! (oh wait, i remember, dumya won.)
