This is getting worse for them.

I'd boycott Sony, but that would be too large a project to keep track of. Is'nt everything owned by Sony?

Pretty much. You'd probably wind up cutting out your favorite brand of lunchmeat or some shit.

Nyeah. It happened to be there. I'm sure it'll happen here too. This is some really bad press for them, or at least it will be when someone duplicates it here.

Yeah since virus' recognize & obey international borders

We knew it was gonna happen as soon as the story broke about the root kits. At least this way it happened fast & word is out. And now we know Sony is not getting off scott free. Can we say class action?

California has already said class action. Hope it tickles, bastids. I have nothing against them in particular, but this was a dumb, dumb idea. Someone should've figured it out and stopped it. And the bad news is that corp's of that size do NOT learn anything anymore unless they get slapped in the wallet. Whatever it takes.

I love the fact that the ad I got on that page is from Philips.

Sony doesn't own Metropolis, does it? Cold Meat Industry? Projekt? A Different Drum?

I might be able to survive.

someone should sue 'em. sh|t, they sue kids for downloading their music; someone should sue them for installing hidden, malicious software onto their pcs. i think it's only fair.

The REALLY disturbing part of the article:
Quote:
Using statistical sampling methods and a secret feature of XCP that notifies Sony when its CDs are placed in a computer

Yeah, see if they can swallow their own bitter pill when it's fed to them.

By the way, which band was it that changed a title of their album to "Suck Fony?" I forgot....

*edit*

Nevermind, found out it is Wheatus.

And, ironically, code from the guy who wrote DeCSS (I think).

You can mail your cd's back to Sony BMG and they will send you a new unprotected copy of the disc.

It says they sold 4.7 million of the copy protected discs. Yikes!

I wish they'd give a comprehensive list of CDs. I don't know if this encompasses older CDs like Kings of Leon to newer discs like Imogen Heap. Both are RCA, which is manufactured by Sony BMG.

I own a lot of stock in Sony, so I have to defend my technological overlord.

Basically, if you attack Sony, you are hurting the troops. You don't hate the troops, do you?

There's a comprehensive list of the CD's in a public statement made by Sony. I'll see if I can find it and post a link.

I know there's a link off of eff.org...okay, here is the eff.org link.
