He did have a pretty inconsistent game at NO last week, but this week was a wind-blown disaster (his only pick was literally wind-blown into a defender) that you can throw out, and in the Minnesota, Baltimore and Detroit games he was above 77 as a passer rating. No, not stellar, but certainly not horrible. I'll take an 80 passer rating in that offensive scheme when Jones and Peterson/Benson are rolling up 130/game in rushing yards.

No, it's not pretty, but it's football that can minimize rookie QB mistakes. They have deliberately kept the playbook a lot simpler so that he could learn enough to work with, but not feel overwhelmed.

And everyone talks of these close wins against bad teams as if they are some sort of warning beacon. As we saw with the White Sox, there's just an intangible about winning close games with certain teams, and the Bears (like the Sox) have that in spades. No, I'm not implying they'll even win a playoff game. They won't. They'll probably get DESTROYED against an NFC east or south WC team. But from what I saw today and tonight, I guarantee you they will have a lead and a chance to win against either Pittsburgh or Atlanta, especially now that I've done some research on Atlanta and they are a lot more mortal than I originally thought.

I think Atlanta's a lot more talented, and I think mobile QBs give the Bears all sorts of problems, but if Urlacher spies Vick and they force him into a pocket passing game, I think they can even the odds.

Sorry to break up the hate but I have some legitimate Bears football questions to ask y'all:

1. With Benson likely out and Thomas Jones not at full strength (at least for this week), do you think the Bears can continue that impressive rushing yardage with Adrian Peterson?

2. Should coach Lovie continue to let Orton develop as the starting QB? He's so painful to watch.

3. Wade: bench or waive? Also, should we pick up another WR at this point in the season?
4. What so you consider are best plans for the upcoming Panthers? What will keep this game close?

1) Jones was held out mostly for precautionary reasons and because the 49ers are a weak team that the Bears thought they could beat with anyone in the backfield. Most believe he will probably be back by the Panthers game.

2) As long as we can run the football effectively, the QB position will be relatively contained, as it typically is anyway with this type of scheme.

3) Wade will have competition at the punt return slot. The tough thing is that two of the muffs may have been wind-blown, btu the third was inexcusable.

4) The Panthers will be the Bears toughest opponent all season, and will probably win by two touchdowns. I just don't see them winning the game.

1. jones should start this sunday, sore ribs or not, but peterson will probably get some carries. i don't know what i think of peterson, even if he did hang 120 yards against the niners. mostly because it was the niners.
