I burned a cd for someone and in the process the burner tacked on 2-4 minutes of blank space at the end of a few songs. I'm not sure why it does this, the wav files I was burning have only the customary 3-5 second fadeouts when I listen to them. Anyway its pretty annoying, and I'm not sure why it did it. I was going to reburn the files but just in setting up the burn I can see based on file length (min:sec) that it was going to add the extra space again.

Anyone run into this problem before? I don't recall what software I'm using but its just the standard burner that comes with a dell computer. Anyone use something better that is free or at least cheap?

Can you go in and edit those files and just lop off the minutes of silence? It's a hassle, but it should be possible.

That's the point though..the minutes aren't there to lop off. When I play the files using Real Player or Windows Media play there's only a 3-5 second fade out, the minutes are being added in the burn process.

Yeah, some programs have an option where you can adjust the pause between tracks so it would help to know which program that you are using.

dr. are the files that large before you put them in the burning list?
Could your ripping software add thosw minutes on. What if you play the suspect tracks on your computer, are there extra minuts of silence?

That's what I was trying to say...no the minutes aren't there when I play suspect tracks on my computer as stand alone files. The minutes only get added on to the cd-r....

I'm trying to burn 14 tracks totalling 78 minutes of music and my burner is recognizing it as 14 tracks of 84 minutes of music (including the added silence). The extra space is thrown on 3 of the 14 songs. Its not even like its adding the space equally across all songs so i don't think its a fade in/fade out setting on my software. Besides, I've never had this problem before and I've burned lots without altering the settings.

Its my home computer and I can't remember the name of the software but like I said it was a standard software provided by dell. I suppose I could rip them to a different format or download a different software but was wondering if anyone else had any other suggestions first. Even if I could just fix it by reripping the tracks to vbr mp3s, my intellectual curiousity is bugging me. I don't understand why its doing what its doing.

again..look into this

clip fade in and out

it might be selected on a few songs....
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/window ... 0.mspx#EHD

the fade out might be 10 seconds of nothing
