I watched it last night. From the director of Amelie and it also stars Audrey Tautou. The movie is a masterpiece. I know the ladies of Obner would love it since it is a love story of sorts. Some of the men would fall asleep. Only the macho-crap ones though. The more open-minded ones would love it. I left the theater with an amazing feeling of accomplishment. Other movies that have made me feel that way include The Motorcycle Diaries, Tarnation, Before Sunset, and Shaun Of The Dead.

Even i thought this looked pretty qual when I saw a preview before I finally watched Motorcycle Diaries.

I caught In America late last night, and though completely different that what I thought it would be like (considering Sheridan's other output espec. In the Name of the Father) I thoroughly enjoyed this. More of a fable than I would have ever thought. Good flick, though.

My wife and I were only engaged (actually only knew each other) for four months before we got married. I'd say that doesn't qualify.

Is that the movie about the immigrant family from Ireland who were poor and lived in the slums of New York?

If so, I didn't like it as much as I thought I would. The whole next door neighbor thing creeped me out.

Yes, same movie. You gotta see it as the guy giving up his life so the kid (and the family) could live happily ever after. Kinda weird presentation, but as I said it was more of a fable than I thought it would be.

Needless to say I'm dying to see this. My only real chance before Xmas would be to go alone today all the way up to W-LA. Love story part doesn't bug me, Amelie was a love story, same with Garden State & Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Not every love story has to be a Julia Roberts -Hugh Grant shitfest.

What'd you think of The Motorcycle Diaries, Dave? I don't recall reading your opinion on the movie.

I saw this along with a q and a presented by Jean Pierre Jeunet at the museum I work in a few weeks ago.
I enjoyed it.
I read the book a while back (same title, by Sebastien Jarisprot or something like that) and the movie is much better.
in the end I am still an Amelie girl.

I fucking loved it. It made me think back to the times when I thought I believed in things, and that righteous indignation and a desire to change the world would lead me to bigger and better things.

I thought the cinematography was outta this world, and that while it kind of played like a travelogue, and they tried to leave it in the context that it was, without delving into what Che would become, they still left hints at his awakening to social consciousness and the need (in his eyes) for violence in any revolution.

I commented to my friend Tommy (the filmaker) that it was sorta like watching the Star Wars prequels, and trying to figure out what made Anakin turn into Vader. (A simplistic simile, but I remain a simple man)

I told chase a while back that I am quite glad you guys goaded me into giving up my "no subtitles" rule, b/c I think all the good movies I've seen this year are foreign (Amored Perros, Y Tu Mama Tambien, City of God, Motorcycle Diaries)

I think this may spur me into watching Truffaut and stuff that I have always been semi curious about, but would never bring myself to do before.

I'm glad you loved it. It's a wonderful film. You should really like A Very long Engagement when you watch it. Movies like that make me salivate for other foreign movies to come. Next on my list are Bad Education (starring Gael Garcia Bernal) and The Sea Inside (starring Javier Bardem)

I haven't seen the movie, but methinks the prospect of a half-naked Djimon Honsou will probably override the creepy factor for me.

I too am a simple man and agree whole-heartedly with your simile Big Man. Amazing movie! Saw that preview for Long Engagement as well and thought it looked awesome.

Saw the preview right before I watched 'Sideways'. Anyone seen this. Thought it was funny as shit.

I will never, ever take it that far. I have my pride. Well, no I don't have that but I've got other stuff that keeps me from doing it
