This is true. Same can be said with VU. Seismic impacts, these albums had.

Tough call between Sgt. Pepper's and Velvet Underground and Nico. I ended up going with Sgt. Pepper's, but it's more of a tie.

Doors for me. I spent most of my childhood and even grownup years a very big fan, especially of this album.

Yeah, I don't know. I think it just had to with not picking an album that isn't my favorite for that particular artist. I know that isn't really relevant either, but that was my line of thinking when I voted.

I'm the same way - I feel usually the best of the year also has to be the artist's best. There's maybe one or two exceptions.

Pretentious motherfuckers, voting for Velvet Underground...

Jimi is a zen master of the trade (songs, that is).

You know, I could just as easily have picked this over Pink Floyd. My favorite Who album.

Haven't listened to it in years, but figured a mention was in order.
Come to think of it, I haven't listened to ANY of those records in years.
Geeeesh..

another tough thing about this series is I'm going to have to omit certain of people's faves. I don't want this to become 'ok, another late 60s poll...stones, beatles, or kinks THIS year?' I'll probably piss some people off, but whatever.

I disagree completely. Jimi is the example I always cite, when I want to prove that technical dexterity on one's instrument is not mutually exclusive with the ability to write actually interesting songs. He had an absolutely unassailable pop sensibility.

I'll side with dusty...I'm not sure what you think is missing...middle part is a little vague. I like Jimi much more than I listen to him which could be because I tend to select music to play by thinking I want to listen to a rock album or something funky or something with a groove and its hard to compartmentalize him that way. But if I could only select one artist to listen to for the rest of my life, he'd be in the running cause he's great and he's all those things in one package.

This one was easy, because VU & Nico is top 5 of all time for me, but what a great year. Love is in the running for second place as was The Doors and Hendrix, not to mention White Light/White Heat.

I guess I'll default vote for one of the weakest Stones albums. It DOES have the first Keef-lead vox (Connection) so that makes up for it I guess. AND it has a really cool cover.

One of the weakest? Are you fucking kidding? I guess I'm voting for the US version here since I don't believe you specified, but "Let's Spend The Night Together", "Ruby Tuesday" and "She Smiled Sweetly" are three of my fav Stones tracks of this era not to mention "Connection".

Good year though; I really like that VU album and totally agree on the magical influential powers (not to mention overall goodness) of Sgt. Peppers and Hendrix....

I disagree with Spade on Piper...., never really like that album too much, but we've had that argument before so I won't bring it up.

That first Doors album is really good too if you like the Doors and when I did, I certainly did. Even now, I think its a pretty unique sounding record compared with what else was going on.

I finally bought Forever Changes a few years ago after hearing so much good about it for so damn long. I don't get it. Not crap, just not my cup of qual.

Another tough one, but had to go with VU since it sometimes seems like probably a third of my record collection comes as a result of that album. Guess most of the rest is made up of the Beatles and Neil Young and Bowie and a bunch of others, and all their legion of followers, so VU wins this one.

the middle part is what makes me care, i can't really explain.

his music doesn't effect me on an emotional level (i mean, obviously a few songs here and there do) but he doesn't do much for me. For instance, i think when he does dylan covers he makes them less interesting and takes all of the drive and feeling out of them. I'm sure for you it's the opposite.

JHE Axis is tricky cos it came out December 1967 in Britain and Jan. 68 in U.S. As much as I love this record, it might be my least favorite JHE (used to be my favorite when I first heard them 15 or so years ago).

1967 is absolutely my favorite year in music. My favorite overall from the year is Magical Mystery Tour, but it sorta doesnt count b/c of how it wasn't a full studio LP as such.

If not that, my favorite from this year is Jefferson Airplane Surrealistic Pillow. Can't fully articulate my love for this album. Beautiful arrangements, varied moods, and wonderful flow. A blissful record.
