Tiny Mix Tapes has a nice interview with the man who is so incredibly underrated as a songwriter and artist that it's illegal in 8 states and 2 provinces. I mean how crazy good is this man's catalogue?

Bloomed, Since (amazing), The Hill, Impasse, Dents and Shells. These are just the ones I own. I should really get the others as well. The Hill is an incredible collaboration with Calexico. Untouchable, really. I feel like the new one has been bypassed by a lot of people, too. One of the reasons, I think, is because it came out on Merge around the same time as Arcade Fire and Merge blew all their marketing budget on that one and didn't push Buckner's record.

Anyhow. If anyone else out there feels, even in the slightest, the same way about this man you should really post something down below, now.

Totally agree, Craigo. And you've gotta get Devotion + Doubt, if only 'cuz Buckner's got Howe Gelb and Marc Ribot backing him on that one. I think there's a used copy at Zulu.

I still have to get the new one and The Hill but, dangnabbit, I'll get around to it one day.

Agreed as well. I just purchased the new one and have yet to really give it a good listen. What I have heard I really enjoy. I also have a live version of him covering "Here" (Pavement) which is damn good. I saw him live about 3 years ago in a really small bar (only about 20 people there to see him) and he put on a great show. Super nice guy too.

I've seen him twice. Once in a bar, that wasn't that busy. In fact the whole dance floor was empty and people just sat at the tables 20 ft away from him. The other time was outdoors at Bumbershoot in Seattle. During that show he told a story about playing an outdoor show in Wisconsin, and how the bugs were swarming and dropping into his beer. Needless to say something wasn't right about his outdoor show then either. He stopped in the middle of a few songs and never came out for an encore even though we all tried. But when i thought about it his music definitely lends itself to dark bars, preferably smoky as well although those are harder and harder to come by where I live.

I only have Impasse, but that's MY fault for not buying everything else he's done. Truly under-rated.

huge Buckner fan. I like all his albums...probably rank like this:

1. The Hill
2. Devotion and Doubt
3. Bloomed
4. Since
5. Dents and Shells
6. Impasse
7. Self-titled album with a bunch of acoustic versions

Probably in my top 5 currently recording artists.
