I meant to tell you Yail, Frank Black's debut is finally hitting me like it should've 12 years ago. I had "Old Black Dawning" in my head literally all weekend.

NOICE!

Yeah, its an interesting and weirdly beautiful record. I'm surprised it took you this long since you play keys and it has all those quirky Eric Drew Feldman licks on it. In a class with, but just a small step below, Teenager of the Year.

Shit, now I wish I had that on my ipod so I could break it out this afternoon.

What I was looking for at the time was another Pixies record, and it's most certainly NOT a Pixies album. I was going through withdrawal. I ignored the record subsequently for like 10 years.

And I like my keys in prog rock but I have mixed feelings/guilt about them in indie rock at times. Most of the times I just want them to stack guitars and turn em all the way up. Unless, of course, I'm the one playing the keys. :D

Hey, I've got an idea, SK - replace that Joseph Arthur with Marah Kids In Philly.

i voted sigur ros. i hadn't had an album blow me away like that since the verve's a storm in heaven. that album is single-handedly responsible for my beginning to post on the cmj board and restoring my faith in new music.

I think 2000 was a pretty good year, actually. Not as good as '99 or 2001, but still better than 2003-present.

I went with Kid A, but second would have been 'Other' for Yo La Tengo's And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside-Out. Heartbreaker and Mass Romantic follow closely.

I'm just not very familiar personally with a lot of the records I included on the list. I've probably only heard 30 records from that year.

I was going to, but then I realized I've listened to AB more, and I'm trying to be honest with myself on these.

I voted other for Jon Brion "Meaningless"

Other notables not mentioned yet:

Queens of the Stone Age "Rated R"
Webb Brothers "Maroon"
Joe Pernice "Big Tobacco"
Pedro the Lion "Winners Never Quit"
Belle & Sebastian "Fold Your hands..."
Teenage Fanclub "Howdy"
Knife in the Water "Plays One Sound & Others"
Clinic "Internal Wrangler"
Starlight Mints "Dream that Stuff Was Made From"
Femi Kuti "Shoki Shoki"
Jairzinho Oliveira "Dis'ritmia"

I like most of the above more than any of the 10 choices...save maybe White Stripes.

It's a turkey that someone drew a scary face on. I did a search for "funny turkey picture" or something and this is what I got. It's my Thanksgiving avatar and I believe the picture is called "turkey from hell."

You know, I've never heard that one. I have II and III but not this one. I really loved that first 7" they put out too, but I can never find that track

ooh! I think you'd dig it SK. It's a good progression from Burns. It's a cleaner recording than some of their earlier works, but there's a LOT more going on in the songs. I find that compared to say, II, AD is not as heavy sound wise, but more heavy musically--just a denser album--if that makes any sense.

What was the name of the 7" you were referring to? It may well be on the Singles Breaking Up comp from '99.
