oh i feel you day star... the girls around me gossip like crazy. it's fuckin annoying when i'm on the phone with a client and i can't hear what they're saying because the women just won't shut the fuck up!

the best part was when i was in vegas for work and one of our assistants was crying at her desk all week because her boyfriend broke up with her. oh boo hoo hoo, leave that shit at home.

i have that problem too. (not just the office mate)

our office area is right next to our classified ads phone room. so, they're on the phone all day over there. but when they're not.....they are gossipping amongst themselves. and whenever one of them leaves for lunch or a break...the rest of them talk about that person until they return. then when another one leaves.....they do it all over again until that person returns. ugh.

oh, and my office mate also uses ALL of my office things. can i borrow your stapler? can i borrow your tape? do you have any sharpies? can i use one? can i use your 3-hole punch? do you have a staple remover? can i use it?

why doesn't she have any of this crap? i think that when i leave today....i'm going to the supply closet and getting her all stocked up.

I think I've told you all before about my work situation, in the sense that I sit in an office space with one other person, but we have materials in our area (files actually) that people need to access pretty frequently. Also, outside my office is an "office assistant" workstation, which usually ends up as being the congregation point for a lot of gossipy women, or just conversations in general. Earlier this year, I finally got them to install a door on our office just because if I'm in a conference call or whatever, I need to be able to hear (like Dri). It also works excellently when there's too much chatter going on, and I get up from my chair, frost them all with a look, and close the door dramatically. Even with the door closed however, there is a woman who sits outside who has the voice of a bullhorn-- there's no way to block it out completely, and she's constantly talking on her phone at that volume.

Before the door got installed, I had a problem with a lot of women coming into our area to gossip with my officemate, who I actually like. Finally, I just told them all that they needed to take it elsewhere because not only does it look unprofessional, but I'm associated with it now, and I don't want to be. So far, they've been abiding by the rules.

Maybe you just need to tell this chick that you're working and you'd like some quiet. It might offend her at first, but it's not like you're being rude. And if you don't say anything, the behavior will continue.

Tell me about it. I'm ready to start working from home, what with all the fumes we've been huffing in here, all the hip-hop and broken beat shit that invariably starts playing at 4:30 (which is very soon), the constant yammering by ADD adults and music nerrrrds, and being in an echoic space that magnifies this all.

At least if there were girls working here, I could spend my time not working working on getting my screw on.

There were a couple people who used to call me at work and talk my ear off. I told them, "new rule: no 'chatting' at work. Feel free to call me, but please get right down to business. I'll chat with you later, when I'm not at work, but when I'm at work, I need to be working."

I had to remind them, later, "I really need to get back to work", etc., but eventually, they stopped spending my time as much.

ok. i now have her desk stocked with supplies.

and i'll have to work on talking to her when she's back on friday.

(but likely i'll probably just continue nodding and smiling and wishing she wasn't talking to me because i really hate confrotntation.....)
