hoegaarden for a day-to-day, Chimay for special occasions, DT for heavy drinking when you don't feel like liquor.

I've enjoyed Chimay (don't remember Red or Blue), but it's been a long damn time. Hoegaarden, not so much, but drinkable for a couple.

Lindemans Kriekbier, is that the shit that is like $20 a bottle and tastes like Ludens?

Same here.

I can't remeber the name of my favorite Belgian beer because it was something I had at this bar in Decatur that has a huge variety of them. It was a lighter one, though, and it was kinda like Hoegaarden but more orange-y.

There's Lindeman's and Liefman's... I prefer Lindeman's over Liefman's because I do think it tastes better. As for tasting like Luden's, no I never thought that. If you want to try a really awesome domestic cherry beer, try Wisconsin's New Glarus Kriek beer.

This was in a bar with a heavy college clientele, so the bottle I had could have been from the Truman Administration.

I studied in Leuven, Belgium for a semester. Some facts I learned while there:

- Belgium is roughly the size of Maryland. Over 300 different beers are brewed commercially in Belgium.

- Leuven is the home of Stella Artois. I toured the brewery. If I recall correctly (this is iffy, since there was a free tasting at the end of the tour), every employee of the brewery got a ration of three (maybe four?) glasses of Stella a day. Our tour guide was drunk.

- There were over 250 bars and restaurants within a 15 minute walk of my campus.

- Beer is sold in vending machines on the sidewalk.

- Yes, you can get beer at McDonalds.

- Beer for breakfast? I took the train into Brussels around 8 AM and there were plenty of men having a beer on the platform before heading to work.

See, I knew Belgium would be a perfect place to ride my bike in a couple o' years... between beer, chocolate and the potential to see the very hot cycle-boy Tom Boonen around town, how could I pass that up? :)

If it's gotta be Belgian and I've got the loot, Chimay Blue. For me, the only good that's ever come from religion.

Yeah, sorry bro but between that and Hoegaarden, while I like both, I choose Stella.

Sweet AND dry, but not especially bitter. Almost licorice-y, which is great by my standards. A bit more alcohol conent, but these tastebuds don't seem to notice. Word on the street is it's comparable to a fine wine - you let this sucker age and it turns to smooth nectar. I serve this on Thanksgiving or during Xmas parties and I've not yet met a hater. If you gots the dosh, I highly recommend this.
