My wife just got a laptop, so she's going to let me use her (ca. 2000) G4 cube at school. I have a G3 iBook (ca. 2002). What I want to do is something virtual desktop-ish, where I have the iBook set up and connected to the desktop as an external monitor, and where if I drag the mouse from the screen, it shows up on the iBook screen. But I still want the laptop hard drive to be accessible at the same time, so I could open applications and documents using the desktop's mouse. I imagine that I'll set up some processor-intensive analyses on the G4, and keep most of my personal stuff on the laptop. Any suggestions as to how to set this up?

I've never heard of anybody hooking up two CPU's together that way.
I do know that you can, using the firewire port, hook up two and use one as an external HD. But the processor on the one acting as an HD is not functioning and you can't launch apps or use them as if they were both on. At least that's been my experience.

I figured it out all by myself. Typing on my desktop, and then pulling the mouse over to change what I'm listening to on my laptop. Pretty freaking awesome.

I don't know if this is going to improve or damage my productivity, but it's pretty fun.
