Anybody else see the wierd message at the bottom of the screen during last night's LOST? It went something like this:

Quote:
In a few weeks, Time-Warner cable subscribers will no longer be able to view Lost, Desperate Housewives, the Superbowl, or any ABC programing. For details go to TimeWarnerDoesNotCare.com.

When you click the link it takes you to a site that encourages you to spam Time Warner with support for ABC. wtf?

edit: fixed link

That sounds like someone hacked the cable system somehow..

I cant see a news station sponsoring something like this. And to create a website called 'tiomewarnerdoesntcare.com' could possibly be considered libelous (sp? lawyer check?)

the site is so primitive. i dont buy it. i think it was a prank.

I have no idea what that is, so probably not.

usually these things are a result of the cable company not wanting to pay more money to the channel and the pissing match that ensues, with both sides trying to get the audience to goad the offending party into capitulation.

I don't think its a hack. I think the low-budgetness comes from it only affecting this local channel(?)

As for libel/slander/defamation, "truth is an absolute defense." As long as the stuff on the site is true, they're pretty much in the clear. A court wouldn't be likely to hold them liable for merely saying "Time Warner doesn't care" because lible and the like have to be based on false factual claims.

not showing two of the highest rated shows on tv right now and the superbowl would be commercial suicide. suffice it to say its not going to happen.

I don't watch Lost, but we get Time-Warner Cable here in Lincoln. I can't see either side really being able to force the other to capitulate. Time-Warner, Cox and Comcast are way too big to be pushed around by a network, and both sides would be facing substantial losses if they cut ties with each other.
