Editors, in my experiences, seem to have a tendency to suck. Don't ever let them get you down. You're a good writer Katie, don't let anybody paint as anything but.

From your original description, it does not sound like you said anything truly bad about your friend. A true friend is one who will tell you when you have broccoli stuck in your teeth.

I have a friend who's in a band, and he's a great songwriter, excellent producer (at least demo quality, if not fully releasable quality -- I certainly have no negative criticisms of his production ability, as a matter of fact, I want him to produce me when I'm ready), and to top it all off, he's prolific as hell. The only problem is, because of a certain situation, he hasn't released a single album. I keep harping on him to do so, and this is the sort of thing that might've been in a similar email, had I been in your shoes. As far as I am concerned, you have a burden lifted from you -- you can now be totally honest (without being destructive) with your in-band friend.

Don't know what to do about the editor, though -- sounds like a typical manager-type -- delegate duty, delegate responsibility, and when the shit hits the fan, delegate blame. I've never known how to deal with those people.

bahaha

thanks for the s'port guys. he and i have been emailing, and we're good. i'll deal with the ed later.

here's what my friend wrote:
"...and for the record, i know - believe me - that demanding a 1,200 word feature on a startup band with no history to speak of is, well, a tad absurd. if i can help with anything to fill out the story -- lies, slander, platitudes -- i gladly will. or you can print this email exchange."

hrm... what sort of lies and slander should we come up with? taking suggestions.

That's awesome. Your friend sounds like a good bloke.

How about an oblique reference to "that vid that leaked"?
