Hoodoo Gurus

Waa? Hoodoo Gurus are still together and playing good music??

Last of their discs I heard was In Blue Cave, and it wasn't all that. Except for Mind The Spider, which may have made up for the rest of the album.

Like I said, in retrospect, they are a poor choice for a band that has consistently put out quality records over a long period of time. That said, imo, Mach Schau which came out 2 years ago is their best release since Mars Needs Guitars. Billz obviously doesn't agree.

I'll have to give it another shot, but my first few impressions weren't that great.

u2 may be putting out relevant albums but crappy ones, nonetheless.

Stupid question: how can an album be relevant AND crappy? These two, although not mutually exclusive, are pretty opposite, no?

Well, if it means anything, All That You Can't Leave Behind is a fantastic album and probably their most underrated.

On the other hand, Atomic Bomb left the opposite impression on me. The songwriting was mediocre enough, but they didn't even have Eno to make the album at least sound interesting.

And remember, "relevant" is relative. And, really, meaningless.

Rush. Hahahaha. And King's X is sooo fricking tired.

Good call on KC, though.

I'll admit King's X aren't exactly pushing artistic boundaries. But they aren't doing that bad for a band that never had a hit single and has a lead singer that is 55 years old. They have a solid fan base that still cares very much about what they do, myself included.

Maybe the Flaming Lips depending on how the new stuff is. That song from the Wedding Crashers kinda sucked.

I would say the Flaming Lips qualify just from their start being '84 or '85, and The Soft Bulletin dropping in '99. Yoshimi tended to strengthen that assumption. At War with the Mystics - is that a reference to their struggle [sic] with Cat Stevens (Sufi Muslim, e.g. mystic) over "Father & Son"/"Fight Test"? - should cement it.
