I can't decide....

Lestat - The Broadway musical.

Anne Rice's suave vampire killer jumps from the bestseller list to the Broadway stage!

The legendary songwriting team of Sir Elton John and Bernie Taupin have united to write the music and lyrics for Lestat, their first-ever Broadway musical together.
The all-new musical is based on Anne Rice's celebrated character, the suave, seductive vampire Lestat, who has already captivated audiences on the page and onscreen in such works as Interview With the Vampire, Queen of the Damned and The Vampire Lestat, drawing on characters and incidents from all three best-selling novels.

Prior to arriving on Broadway in 2006, Lestat will play San Francisco's Curran Theatre in Fall 2005

Good idea. The movie wasn't gay enough, so make it into a musical.

I heard somewhere that she's gonna start writing only about Jesus from now on. Anyone else hear that?

She's become a devout Catholic recently and figures since she's in her 60's now and has written a crapload of vampire/witch/romance/historical fiction over the past 40 years, she'll spend the last few years of her life writing about God. Says she's already had her fame and success and now wants to focus on personal enrichment.

There's a Lestat movie? I know they did Interview... and Queen...

Lestat is the best Anne Rice book I've read (which ain't many, just the first four vampire books).

I like Rice's novels a whole heck of a lot.

The movie adaptions, uh, no.

Just once I'd like to see macabre beauty done right on screen.

So she's going from one kind of fantasy fiction to another.

Let's see...vampires suck blood. Elton sucks...well, Elton sucks. Seems like a good fit.

I'm still thankful they haven't brought The Witching Hour series to the screen. As much as I LOVE that series, I think that hollywood would fuck it up something awful like the other ones.

Yeah I know Rice almost died a few years ago and then after she started recovering her husband died suddenly. Plus she had a daughter die of leukemia at the age of five back in the 70's which was what spurred her on to write the Vampire Chronicles.

I think she's allowed at this day and age to write something a little different eh?.

And this broadway thing? AWFUL IDEA. My dear GOD what is that nutcase thinking(Elton John).

Bad idea.

As for frosted's mention of Rice's "romance" novels, have you ever read one of these? They're not romantic, they're not sexy... it's full on hardcore. I read one of her "Beauty" books when I was still in highschool, and let's just say I wasn't real familiar with the idea of fist-fucking until I read that. Hardly romantic.

No, I was referring to Interview with a Vampire -- think of Lestat, The Musical as the sequel.

The only thing that could make this a better idea would be to get Trey Parker and Matt Stone to write the music.

Oh hell yeah they can be hardcore.

That series is awesome though. I have two of them.

Also she wrote a book called Belinda under the name Rampling and that book is crazy. It's my favorite of hers. All about a 16 yr old girl who becomes the muse and lover of a 40 something children's illustrator. Really interesting book.

And her two other books, Feast of All Saints and Cry to the Heavens are really good too. Neither of them have anything to do with the supernatural. Which is sometimes when I like her books best.

I could not finish that book -- it was just so boring after the vampire ones.
