I attributed it to their look, but you might have a point as well.

I've tried, from time to time, to listen to this band and see if there's something I'm not hearing based on descriptions and reviews.

There isn't.

Oh also, their fans.

For reasons they're awful.

Why did Korn just play a song from 1997 on a SNL appearance to promote their new album?

I forgot Sat Night Live was even on...*sigh* I suppose the rest of the country has slipped as well with watching it. Is SNL even relevant anymore?

I don't think it's been 'relevant' in quite some time, decades maybe. I don't think that means it hasn't been entertaining, but when you speak of cultural relevance, that's a different issue. Especially when there are so many alternatives to it. When I say this, I don't mean MadTv. I'm thinking more of The Daily Show, Chapelle's Show (late lamented) and others of this ilk. Others now do SNL's schtick better, I think. That's just an opinion of course.

Decades? I don't know there were definitely some gems during the Clinton presidency, and I think the Perot stuff with Carvey was spot on. The thing is, now you don't say, "oh who's going to leave for a burgeoning film career?" The current cast I could see very well languishing there much too long, overstaying their tenure.

Musically, every year they, again, have some gems. They just seem stuck in this rut in paying homage to past cast members. Perhaps they need Paul Simon to host to spark something hehe.

I think I put my finger on it. It's their suckitude. They really have surpassed pretty much all other bands (except maybe Limp Bizquik) in their suckitude. They have no competition.

Because they haven't figured out how to play their new songs yet?

Dude come on. Nickelback? Creed? (no wait, Alterbridge and solo Scott Stapp?)

I stand corrected. Creed, especially, surpass superlatives in their suckitude.

Same reason the Beastie Boys perform "Sabotage" as their (second) song on SNL. People don't mind hearing it, and it's prolly their best (rock) song.

I remember the BB did "Sab" on SNL in late '98 or early '99, a good five (six?) years after it was released. And after they'd already done it on SNL in '95 (and maybe even before that).

I have seen a tidbit of that scott stapp video on vh1. If anyone had any doubts about who it was that best personified the Suck in creed, let there be light.

Korn = IMO, one of the absolute worst bands EVER. There's not 1 element of their sound, image, or songs that I don't flat-out fucking HATE.

Horrible on SNL.

There's a weird paradox those nu-metal bands that try to be super-heavy and scary have the weakest, thinnest guitar tones. They sound all sucked out and flaccid.

Yep yep yep. And then you go see a "jam" band like Gov't Mule, and Warren Haynes has the thickest, rawest, chunkiest, most sinfully delicious guitar sound ever.

Someone should tell a lot of bands nowadays that overdistortion doesn't make people horny anymore.

Ain't that the truth? And he plays slide sooo tasty. A friend (who plays guitar) tells me WH doesn't do the "weird" tuning most slide players use, he just sticks to the regular ol' tuning.

You've seen the Deepest End stuff on DVD, right? God, that version of Mule is incredible. Layin' it down.
