My point was that if you like Low you might like this album, which isn't a far cry from Low, excepting the vocals.
And I guess my point is, it is indeed a far cry from Low.

Unless I'm thinking of a different Low.

Reverberant guitar, languid beat, melancholy, simplicity. I'll be darned if this album doesn't share at least those qualities with that band. I'm not saying this is Earth trying to be Low. I'm saying that someone who enjoys the instrumental makeup of Low, specifically of their typically darker early releases, might enjoy similar elements of this album. (And you're sure they're not there?) Keep in mind, I listed three other bands as well to formulate one admittedly haphazard RIYL.

Fine. Settled. (Haphazard in that it was not planned.)

I am now a proud owner of this 2LP + extra track/entire side not found on CD.

I might just segue from "Secret Name" to this sickness.

Okay, can we just delete the entire subthread that includes...oh, I don't know, anything that has anything to do with me? I can't even find a single Earth CD. I'm not sure I have any, much less the most recent one.

Just took a gander at the cover art, and granted there are a ton of barns that look like that, but it looks seemingly identical to the one at a Shaker village I went to this summer. Someone who owns the album--have a location in the credits?

Dusty: Stay steadfast to your opinion. (But if you hadn't heard the new piece when discarding my comparison, then permission granted to delete away.)

Fwying Wabbit: No photo credits. They seem authentically old. The LP has different art than the CD, though that barn is there in the gatefold. Find a photo of yours and I'll compare.

Dalen: I founds it in town. Apparently I was mislead about its availability. The store owner was all like 'I've been pushing Earth here for over 10 years. I brought in 12 copies." He was such a metal fag.

Well, this is my Sunday morning.

EARTH "Legacy Of Dissolution" CD (No Quarter)

Earth remix cd. All the classic Earth songs remixed by Mogwai, Sunn, Haswell, J Broadrick, Autechre, and Jim O'Rourke. Brand new release. Essential

Anyone have this? Mogwai & O'Rourke?! *becomes fanboy*.

Okay, I've been listening to the new Earth, Hex: or Printing in the Infernal Method and the new Low, Destroyer and I just don't hear it. Earth is like an order of magnitude slower than Low.

I stand steadfast in my opinion -- I just don't hear the comparison. Unless the new Low is different from everything else they've done. Sounds kind of Pixies-ish.

Please, dude. You compared it to "The Great Destroyer"?? Try "Secret Name" or "Long Division". My comparison was rooted there. Besides, the fact that you criticized my initial RIYL without having heard the album renders all subsequent opinions baseless.

Thread intended as praise for this record. Let it resume as such. More of you have heard this by now??

The album itself is excellent, highly recommended, if you're into the genre at all. Earth are masterful in the art of the dirge.

Great Destroyer is the only one I could find. I buried the others in storage somewhere.

Bought this on Ish's rec...color yrself praised for yr rec. I dig it. I played it for my fiance and she dug it. When we can listen to a record together in the car and we both like it, it is good. Thank you.

What are you doing to me? If those are vinyls in storage somewhere, I'd love to buy them off you, and give them a better home.

But we are all three agreed (DC, Rabbit, and me) that this is an excellent record.

Would've made my top ten had I heard it earlier in the year.

No, they're just CD's.

I'd have to find them first.

For anyone who has heard the Alan Sparhawk (from Low) album from this year, Solo Guitar, the comparison is brought full circle: really spacious, delberate musings on solo electric and droning guitar that exists somewhere along the straight line between Low and Earth. Highly recommended.
