My company shed about 25,000 jobs, from 80,000 to 55,000. We're still over-staffed.

The UAW are almost as stupid as the IAM.

If they file, and they will, kiss the defined benefit pensions good-bye, and welcome to the club. Lost my DBP last year, after losing about $40K in company stock value.

Lesson to all you kids at home: SAVE SAVE SAVE Max out your Roth IRA contributions, and dump whatever's left in a 401K. Social Security ain't gonna be there, and pensions are a dinosaur.

I hear ya.... I was telling my husband the other night that we need to start investing a lot more. We've got a few stocks, and both are contributing around 15% of our paychecks to 401(k), but I still feel like we don't do enough.

oh, btw, timmy, chatted with my mom this morning, and they don't know how/if the layoffs will affect my dad. They're supposed to go to a shareholders' meeting in mid-December, and I'm sure they'll find out more then. Still, no fun, but their house is paid for and both cars are paid for... it's not like they're spending a lot of their money. I just worry about the health care aspect.
