Beckett is twenty-five (to open the season; born May '80 (shee', boy's younger'n I), and has 103 career starts (his career record is 41-34).

Just thought to correct. 'Cause that 103 win total seemed way off - since A.J. Burnett or Brad Penny is the Marlins career wins leader at 45, or something.

Yeah, and then added "p.s. fuck you".

That was more than less a "fuck you in advance"

To help bolster the pitching staff, it looks like the Orioles are in the lead to lift Carlos Delgado from the Marlins.

Cool and thanks for the crx - I thought that was a bit odd myself. Shows you what I get for trusting people on other webboards.

Nevertheless, that wasn't really much of a linchpin in my argument. Not that I really think there was an argument here.

The discussion I've had today elsewhere was why this is or is not a better deal than getting tied up in a deal for Burnett (sans Lowell and giving up the prospects). My answer to that is: we're not signing any long-term deals here and we're actually getting 2 years of arbitration with Beckett. If Lowell regains even 20% more production *and* the Sox keep Manny (and do the Roberts-Wells trade), things are looking a lot better.

Burnett is prolly no more durable than Beckett, and he'll be more prone to turning "head-case" and causing uproar in the R. Sock clubhouse. But, if you sign him, you also don't give up Sanchez (who's going to be a beast) and Ramirez (who could prolly move from short to third, in '07, with a year of seasoning there in AA/AAA this coming year).

Also, it's pretty conspicuous that testicular cancer suvivor Lowell goes cold in the first year of regular steroids testing. So, I don't know if we can expect a return to bopping in the new season.

... As it is, the rotation, where the Sawkx need the help, is bolstered with Beckett. Backed by Schilling (for at least one more year), Arroyo, Papelbon (maybe), and Wakefield, they should be good there.

But enough to combat the two-headed monster (presumptively) in Toronto? I don't know. Halladay and Burnett will be a fuckin' beast that even the NY bats won't be able to handle...

Or was that just your mind being ecstatic over getting a young, unproven pitcher that has been on the DL 9 times in 4 years?

Beckett is a stud...Lowell had one down year...

I hate the fact that the Dodgers didn't get in on this deal - we really need another pitcher, and 3B is vacant (unless Nomar takes the bait). You're telling me they couldn't top the prospects that the BoSox were giving up?

Hell, even Edwin Jackson has more prospect/3rd starter projectability than Sanchez...

And, yes, for the past few years, the BoSox have been approaching Yankees-style status for me.... However, I can't hate anyone more than the Yanks (except for the Giants), and those damned hit/no field guys (David Ortiz & ManRam) are just so damned cool...

Nevermind the fact that the blisters probably have something to do with what makes him so effective in the first place as a pitcher.

This is true... It's the pressure these bastards put on the finger that causes the blisters in the first place...

Just a thought - do you think JBeckett and DLowe have ever heard of Calluses? I'm sure Arroyo's Uber-femme guitar playing helps him keep from having this problem...

Wow... I can't believe the Alou family got an advance of the new Ricky Martin Single...

"Ricky Martin told fans perhaps a little more about his sex life than some wanted to know. “I love giving the golden shower,” he told Blender. “I’ve done it before in the shower. It’s like so sexy, you know, the temperature of your body and the shower water is very different.”"

The failure to mention specifically the warmth of the urine makes me think that Ricky doesn't quite know what a Golden Shower entails. It's not a golden moment of sexual congress captured in the shower, but, well...

... Yeah, he's prolly just being coy.

Isn't Mark a pitcher going back to his high-school playing days?... I think that he has alluded to attempting to walk-on to the DePaul team as a hurler, but I could be mistaken.

Seattle signed another Japanese star. That first one worked out pretty well---we'll see about this guy.

They really need to go get a quality starter, and there aren't many available. I'd also like to see Delgado at first as well, and move Sexson to left field

If Meche and Piniero can bounce back to their full potential (and that's a big if), along with King Felix, Moyer and a FA signing, their starting rotation good be pretty good. With Soriano coming back from injury next season, and Guardado re-signing, the bully could be improved.

A guy can dream, can't he?

I was always a shortstop or second baseman, but didn't play in high school. Played in a park league til freshman year. I think the hardest I ever threw a ball was like 62 mph. My best friend probably would have gotten a baseball scholarship as a pitcher to college but he got injured and lost interest.

Yup.

I wouldn't stash his slow feet in Safeco (huge outfield, and all).

Works for fantasy lineups. I'd love to see Sexson in LF too... it would make Manny look like Bonds.

They ought just move the team to Washington Heights, the way Omar Minaya is dealing.

La Republica Dominicana sobre todo.

A few exceptions.

F'rinstance, Willie Randolph is black, but not Afro-Caribbean.
