Why? To guarantee that the Sox won't repeat?

Where Kenny go, the champagne don't flow, brother.

His .335 batting average, maybe?

i guess The Score is saying that the cubs are close to a deal to get Pierre for a 3 minor prospects? I haven't heard it but it's on the mlb Cubs board.

Those are completely retarded boards. Contreras for Pierre (which obviously won't happen) is a done deal there too.

Dude is a clubhouse cancer though. Look at the teams he has played on and he has NEVER won a ring (and never will). Ozzie wouldnt put up with his shit;

Congratulations! You've named 95% of the league!

Oh, sorry I wasnt more specific, jackass. Kenny has played in 3-4 World Series and several LCS' so its not like he hasnt been there (unlike 90% of the league). Its just that he is generally considered to be a complete jackass and not a team guy.

Nice year for the White Sox in 2002 as well.....

So your point is that it's magically entirely Kenny Lofton's fault that those teams all lost? Pierzynski was considered the same and that went well. Besides, there's no way the Sox would get Lofton again anyways. As far as ex-Sox players, I would have preferred Eyre or at midseason last year I wanted Durham back.

that's exactly why i think that it definitely won't happen. the people on those boards are idiots.

and aside from the pitching, Lofton was pretty much THE reason why the cubs made it to the NLCS in 2003.

Pretty much. I mean, obviously I just really fucking don't like Kenny Lofton.

But it is a strange coincidence because he has played on some monster teams.

Frustrated by their inability to strike a deal for a new retractable-roof stadium, the Florida Marlins announced yesterday that the team has received permission from Major League Baseball to talk to other cities about relocating - as soon as the 2008 season.

As closer shops his services, O's offer him 3 years, $18 million

B.J. Ryan spent the past two days in Cleveland talking with Indians officials, another step in a process that likely will result in the Orioles' All-Star closer leaving Baltimore.

well, the guy that WAS playing 1b for the Mets the last part of the season was the main guy they gave up to get Delgado - Mike Jacobs. As a die-hard Mets fan, I was loving this kid - only 25, he hit .310 with 11 HR and 23 RBI in ONLY 100 AB's. I know, I know - it was only 30 games, you can't say he'd keep those numbers up for the whole year. But the point is, he was showing huge potential and together with David Wright and Reyes was part of one of the most potentially exciting young infields in baseball. But the Mets are the Mets and as such, traded him away. I know Delgado's numbers are sick, but Mo Vaughn had pretty sweet career numbers when the Mets signed him...so did Robbie Alomar...etc etc.

I'm probably being overly-pessimistic, but I can just see Delgado going on the DL and the Mets eating his salary over the next few years while Jacobs blossoms in Florida - the same sort of nightmare scenario that could happen in that Thome/Rowand deal.

Oh, and here's hoping they can land Wagner - with that meatballer Looper out of the picture and Wagner potentially in, that would address the Mets' most pressing need perfectly.

I know Vegas keeps coming up but the whole gambling thing just won’t let it happen. If the A’s get a new deal or move to San Jose than watch out for Portland or Sacramento.

"The Sacramento Rivercats (Oakland's AAA affiliate) led the minors in attendance last year, actually for like the 5th or 6th year in a row with between 750k - 800k/yr. over that period. That's roughly 2/3rds of Tampa's 2005 paid attendance (not to mention higher than Montreal's avg.)."

Baseball has had an amazing day and almost made bigger news than T.O. but not quite.

ESPN & others are reporting that the Blue Jays have signed BJ Ryan to a 5 year $47MM contract.

I first saw this last night so its probably old news to most who care but I didn't see any mention of it so...

There was really no way he was coming back. The Orioles will probably go ahead and fix almost a decades worth of pitching woes by signing Frank Thomas.

The rumor goes that the Cubs are close to finalizing a seven player deal with the Texas Rangers that would bring Alfonso Soriano and Kevin Mench to the Cubs in exchange for Jerome Williams , Todd Walker , and three minor leaguers, one of whom is believed to be right hander David Aardsma , and another shortstop Ronny Cedeno . According to our source the two clubs have agreed on which players would be dealt, but what is holding it up is exactly what kind of deal Soriano will want in Chicago

Marlins continue firesale...Guillermo Mota goes to the Redsox as a revised Beckett trade is finalized. As a Yankees fan, I'm not sure whether to be happy about this or not. They were rumored to be interested in Mota although I'm not sure he's really that great. He certainly wasn't last year.
