A 3 disc Dolls boxed set is due out at the end of the year. Mostly stuff many will already possess, but there's quite a few rare gems in here was well.

Quote:

The Live Recordings Are Taken from Shows Recorded in Paris in December '73, Vancouver in '74 and New York City in '75.

It's interesting that they chose anything from the '74 Vancouver show. The reports I've heard of that gig were that the band attempted to play while wearing rollerskates and it was, as you'd expect, a bit of a trainwreck.

Apparently it's only going to be available as an import from England, but it's selling for 10 pounds over there so that's still only like 20 bucks American.

Most of this info is from the johnny thunders cyber lounge:

Demos - Planet Studios, 1973
These demos were recorded in March 1973 at Planet Studios in NYC with Paul Nelson producing. For my money, these recordings are the best the Dolls ever did.

There are a total of 22 tracks in the demos but most releases contain less. The only place to get them all is on the double LP 7 Days Weekend. The recent release, A Hard Night's Day, has almost all the tracks and it has great sound and a good booklet.

There are 2 other demo recordings from the Dolls: demos #1 and demos #2.

Track Listing
Seven Day Weekend
Frankenstein
Mystery Girls
Showdown
Back In The USA
Endless Party
Jet Boy
It's Too Late
Bad Detective
Lonely Planet Boy
Subway Train
Private World
Trash
Human Being
Don't Start Me Talking
Hootchie Cootchie Man
Great Big Kiss
Vietnamese Baby
Babylon
Bad Girl
Pills
Personality Crisis

So this new box's tracks 1 - 25 appear to comprise these demos although Mystery Girls was never a demo to my knowledge.

The box cuts 39 - 50 is the exact running order of Red Patent Leather cuts 1 - 12 of 15 total. Maybe there are more than 50 cuts than the list here? This one is famous for it's crappy sound.

Vancouver and Paris both have GOOD sound. Here are some track listings if anybody wants to try and figure out what is one the new box set:

I'm A Human Being

This CD contains a previously unreleased live recording of a gig in Vancouver Canada plus some tunes off Red Patent Leather. There's little information in the booklet about the Vancouver show but it was likely from the middle part of 1974. I'm assuming it was recorded in Vancouver because David Jo mentions the name several times. Tracks 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12 & 13 are taken from the Red Patent Leather CD. About half the tracks are covers and the original tunes are from both the first and second albums. The set is similar to what's found on the 'Live In Paris' disks. The Vancouver recordings appear to be taken from the soundboard and the sound is very good. Liner notes are by Alex Ogg. Nice photos on the front and back of the CD but no others in the booklet.

Track Listing
Hoochie Coochie Man
Great Big Kiss
Don't Mess With Cupid
Chatterbox
Babylon Tell Me Your Name
Pirate Love
Showdown
Mystery Girls
Personality Crisis
Down Down Downtown
Teenage News
On Fire
Dizzy Miss Lizzie
Jet Boy

New York Dolls - I'm A Human Being

CD England 1998 Receiver RRCD 260

VANCOUVER IS BY FAR THE HARDEST TO FIND OF ALL THIS STUFF

Paris Show
At the end of December 1973 the Dolls recorded a live show in Paris France for a future radio broadcast. Sound quality of the recording is good and the band puts on an energetic show. Most of the songs were released on CD but there are a couple of tunes that only surfaced on vinyl. If you're looking for a live recording, I would pick this Paris show over the Red Patent Leather show.

The tracks found on CD are:

Personality Crisis
Bad Girl
Looking For A Kiss
Great Big Kiss
Stranded In The Jungle
Pills
Vietnamese Baby
Trash
Chatterbox
Puss 'N' Boots
Hoochie Coochie Man
Jet Boy
An LP called 'Trash - Don't Take My Life Away' also has:

Who Are The Mystery Girls
Human Being
Babylon
Lone Star Queen
Don't Start Me Talkin'
Musicians
Johnny Thunders - guitar, vocals
David JoHansen - vocals, harmonica
Sylvain Sylvain - guitar, vocals
Arthur Harold Kane - bass
Jerry Nolan - drums
This live show has been released on:

I will own this. And use it as my early-2006 mongering soundtrack.

They don't allow rekkid players in Gitmo, Chris.

Can you imagine how fucking JAIL this is?

No, I'm not sure I can.

I mean I've listened to the LAMF bonus disc.....but this probably outpaces even that.
