so how is ted leo's "shake the streets" different from "hearts of oak"? i wasn't too impressed with "oak" but just heard "me and mia" on sirius and dig it but am a bit cautious.

any input? graci.

Shake the Sheets pretty much runs with the feel you get from "Me and Mia." It's tighter and more guitar-driven, and the hooks are delivered with greater frequency. Hearts of Oak is probably more complex, but definitely gets a little punkier and more loose in parts.

I didn't like Hearts of Oak much. I loved Tyranny of Distance.

Shake the Sheets will probably end up at #2 or 3 on my list. (at least top 5).

Seriously the best guitar driven pop of the year.

Yes. Maybe Ted should cover "Temples of Syrinx".

I might be in the smaller camp on this, because I much prefer Hearts to Sheets.

Hows about "The Trees"

God, when was the last time you just ROCKED out to that one by yourself in your car? (note to self, rock out to "The Trees" later)

"The Trees" rules man. the version on Exit... is all sorts of correct.

there's one song on shake the sheets that has a guitar part that sounds exactly like 50 mission cap by the tragically hip.

I like em all, but Sheets isn't my favorite Ted Leo album. Still, it'll probably be in my top 20 for the year, because it's Ted. And it's a great album.

i feel like a bad fanatic. i haven't even heard shake the sheets in its entirety yet. none of my local stores have it on wax (and every ted leo/chisel/citizen's arrest item in my collection is on vinyl, so i can't change now), so i've been holding out until lookout decides to ship it. we have it at my station, so i've heard bits and pieces there. i rather like it. and now his philly show tomorrow is sold out. ugh.

YES! The opening of "Little Dawn" is virtually identical to the opening of "One Big Holiday."

I agree with every single word of Dri's post. Were it not for her inexplicable hate of the Spurs, she would be perfect.

Tyranny of Distance is also my favorite from TL, and I do like Shake the Sheets more than Hearts of Oak.

Hey FT, how'd ya like that Spurs/Sonics game last night? A little payback for that MNF fiasco last Monday.

I may prefer Shakin by a hair over Hearts and neither rank with Tyranny. That said thought Shakin' does not have any one song to rival "Ballad of Sin Eater"

np. NAs-Streets Disciple

The only thing worse than the Spurs/Sonics game was last night's Spurs/Rockets game. With just over a minute left, the Rockets had scored just 66 points, which would have tied a franchise low for a full game. The Spurs were up by 10 with 52 seconds left, before the previously anemic Rockets rattled off 17 POINTS before the final horn...13 of which came from Tracy McGrady on two three-pointers and a four-point play!!! I saw the look of suicide on Popazit's tremendously cratered face as he walked off the court.

Why must they keep blowing enormous leads?!? They blew a 20-point 4th quarter lead at Toronto earlier this season. And they don't even make the other team go to overtime before blowing the game!!!

goddammit. normally Agnew sends out an email saying a show is almost sold-out, and then i get my ticket and eveyone is happy. but no email this time. i really didn't think this would sell out, last time he was here (July- for a Kerry Concert), there weren't all that many people.

damn, damn, damn, damn.

I totally loved Tyranny and merely liked Hearts of Oak, and I think Shake The Sheets is Leo's best. If I had a complaint it would be that the new album misses the eclecticism of Tryanny, but in some ways that may be one of its strengths.

"Little Dawn" has a similar circular guitar riff used in the opening of MMJ's "One Big Holiday", but to say the songs sound the same is a gross overstatement. "Little Dawn" also openly plagiarizes Smokey Robinson's "The Way You Do The Things You Do", but I wouldn't say those two songs sound the same either.

I finally ordered mine from insound. My fave local record shop didn't get it in, and now they're moving (sob!) so I just went ahead and got it in that sale they had, for like nine bucks on vinyl. Will contribute to this chat as soon as it arrives.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets annoyed at having an artist primarily on one format and having to switch. I'm still irked that the new Blue Nile album doesn't appear to be getting a vinyl release at all.
