His .335 batting average, maybe?

Yeah, and he hit .275 the year before. So, if the pattern holds, he'll hit .395 in 2006.

I love it when people question Kenny Williams. Show me another GM that won a world series in Chicago. Rowand will be missed, esp. his fearlessness... but he is one of the easiest to replace. I'll take a 40 HR 100 RBI lefty thank you very much.

Rowand was probably the most awesome PERSON on the Sox as far as work ethic and personality went, but his number won't be missed that much, and Brian Anderson is just as good defensively.

I don't know much about Anderson, but Rowand was an awesome fielder. He made your pitchers look like hall of famers. If they all start giving up more hits next year and everything else is the same (i.e., same walk rate and strikeout rate), then we'll know why.

And the 10 years before that. He had injury problems last season for the first time in his entire career.

So we're throwing out Thome's .207 in 2005, but keeping Lofton's .335?

That's not really true. Last year was the first time injuries have destroyed an entire season for him but he's struggled with back pain for much of his career. That's the biggest reason a lot of people questioned the large contract he got. Couple that with his age and yes injuries are a concern. Returning to the AL and being able to DH should be a big help. Don't try to say its not a significant risk though even if he is the poster boy for health when compared with frank thomas.

It is a risk. But I don't think we will lose that much even if Thome has a moderately productive year. Say 270, 30 home runs. People said the same thing about Jermaine Dye, and that's exactly what he put up. And shmoo, shut the fuck up, quit stretching. Lofton played a full season, Thome played 50 games that he probably shouldn't have bothered playing. It's not like Thome has hit 207 or anything close before anyways. Lofton HAS hit .310+ before.

So in conclusion,

Since 2000, Thome's HR totals: 37, 49, 52, 47, 42. Hurt last year... but this is the mark consistency. Put him in the Cell for a full season and we should see 45 more this year.

Anderson is better defensively... has better breaks on balls and a much stronger arm. I loved Aaron, but down the stretch, he took so many bad routes and got awful jumps on balls.

I hope Thome's giant head causes the White Sox team plane to take a header into Lake Michigan.

Like what happened to Boston when their big heads caused them to crash and burn at US Cellular?

*insert joke about gunshots from Robert Taylor or something similar*

Wagner, Mets agree to four-year, $43 million deal
ESPN.com new services

Fresh off announcing the arrival of Carlos Delgado, the New York Mets struck again, reaching agreement with free-agent closer Billy Wagner.

The deal is for four years, $40 million and could be worth as much as $50 million as it includes a fifth-year option for $10 million. The fifth year also includes a buyout of $3 million, bringing the guaranteed total to $43 million. The deal is expected to be finalized on Tuesday.

Wagner was 4-3 with 38 saves and a 1.51 ERA last season for Philadelphia. After spending most of his career with Houston, his two seasons with the Phillies showed the left-hander he could handle pitching in a tough city.

"I think if I had an opportunity to play in New York four or five years ago, I probably wouldn't have been as receptive to it," Wagner said. "After the trade of going to Philadelphia and playing there, I believe that's made it that much easier to handle the media, the pressures."

The Mets' initial offer was believed to be a three-year contract worth just more than $30 million, a deal containing an option for 2009 that could increase the package to $40 million.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
